The only ones who don't like it are the severe TDS sufferers. They just can't stand seeing positive things happen under a GOP administration. I can understand, it's called politics but the Dems are in big trouble, they can see that their approval numbers are at an all time low because the American people can see through their constant "world in ending" BS.

Hey ------- - you realize this is just the deal during the 90 days pause and not the final deal - right? Maybe you should ask the married guys you brag about banging to explain how negotiations work.

China bent the knee because their economy immediately felt the pain - they previously said they didn't want to negotiate and here they are because they have no choice. The CCP was facing internal protests for the first time since Tiananmen Square - no amount of liberal cheerleading for their communist comrades changes that fact.

BTW - Like WhatsLeft said - China's already increased, substantially, their export agreements with out nations. I believe they've pretty much made up the loss of the US business. Them paying 10% on (decreased exported) goods to the US isn't going to bother them much at all.

Very true. Every ship that doesn't show up represents ~5,000 truckloads of goods that don't hit the highway. Marine AIS data is showing even the ships that are on the move are sitting a couple of feet higher in the water than normal, indication that they are not fully loaded.

It's very hard to find now because Google has TDS, but all these countries have been charging US tariffs all along, while we have been charging less or even zero in many cases, pretending for instance that they are "developing nations" that need an "advantage" to come up to speed for the sake of globalism and lobby treats to the enabling selfdealing representatives in our country.
I don't think these countries are in need of a trade advantage any more when they are financing our trade deficit and buying out our equities and our geography because they have gotten rich from exploiting our consumer market.

Anything on de minimus duty exemptions?

Most of the Chinese-made goods America buys fell under that rule. If it isn't restored, Americans will be paying 30% more.

The US has ended the $800 duty-free exemption, de minimis, for consignment goods shipped from China (including Hong Kong) to US consumers. This came into effect on 2 May 2025. From this date all consignments worth less than $800 will be subject to a 120% levy or a flat fee of $100, rising to $200 from June.

When all you have are lies you got nothing pal.

The DOW has NOT yet recovered.

It's still down 2,000 pts since February. And if it does it will only just be getting back to where Biden left it.

And there is apparently NO trade deal in spite of whatever fixed news is spewing out today. Tariffs are nearly back to where they started. With no concessions or any deals from China. What we do have is a 90 day pause while Trumpy waits for China to properly bribe, err, offer a "pre gratuity" to him like Quatar just did.

Them Quararians sure know how to treat Mad Kings. I am a bit surprised they didn't invent a huge award ceremony and create a big medal to pin on him too. But maybe that would too obvious and a bit be over the top. (Like giving a Boeing 747 is not).

The day before the election, the Dow was 42200 - you cannot give credit to Biden for the relief rally that occurred when the market celebrated that his corrupt Democrat regime was being kicked out of office. "China sees the U.S. trade deal as a huge win for Beijing
Published Mon, May 12 20253:28 PM EDT

After two days of negotiations with U.S. officials in Switzerland, the Chinese got the Trump administration to roll back its 145% tariffs, which had all but halted bilateral trade."

www.cnbc.com

The Art of the Deal... appears to be demand the moon, and then make no major improvements in trade when you don't get it.

Great strategery, as Republican President W used to say.

#148 | Posted by Corky at 2025-05-12 05:49 PM | Reply

The perception of the U.S.-China trade deal as a "win" for Trump or a concession to China depends on the perspective and source:

- U.S. Government and Trump's Framing: The White House and President Trump are portraying the agreement as a historic win for the United States. The administration highlights the reduction of Chinese tariffs, the elimination of retaliatory measures, and a path toward increased market access for American exports as evidence of a successful negotiation that benefits U.S. businesses and workers[5].

- Chinese Perspective: In China, state media and the public see the deal as a victory for Beijing. Chinese commentators emphasize that their firm stance resulted in the U.S. rolling back steep tariffs (from 145% to 30%) while China made minimal concessions, mostly retracting retaliatory tariffs. Chinese social media is celebrating the outcome as evidence that China did not yield to U.S. pressure[1].

- Independent and Market Analysis: U.S. and international analysts note that the Trump administration retreated from its highest tariffs, which were causing economic strain domestically. The deal is viewed as a pragmatic pause to avoid further economic pain rather than a clear-cut win for either side. Some experts argue this is more of a tactical retreat by the U.S., as the administration had previously insisted tariffs would not be reduced without substantial Chinese concessions, which have not fully materialized[2][3].

- Wall Street Reaction: Markets responded positively, with stocks rallying on the news, as the agreement reduces the risk of a recession and restores trade flows, at least temporarily. However, the underlying issues in the U.S.-China trade relationship remain unresolved, and the deal is seen as a temporary measure rather than a definitive victory[4].

While the Trump administration claims a win, Chinese officials and much of the independent analysis suggest the U.S. made significant concessions to de-escalate the trade war. The agreement is best described as a mutual de-escalation that both sides are spinning as a victory, but with China widely seen as having secured favorable terms with minimal concessions[1][2][3][5].

The vast majority of imports from China used to fall under the "de minimus" exemption on tariffs for items under $800. Trump nixed it.

That means, with (temporary) 90 day 30% tariffs, instead of paying $30 you'll have to pay $40. Walmart isn't gonna eat the fees.

(now 30% - my note)

The end of the de minimis exemption strengthens the argument that Trump is taking a hard line on China, not caving. However, the economic pain will be felt by American consumers, not Chinese exporters, which complicates claims of a clear "win." The trade deal's failure to restore the exemption means the U.S. is not backing down on this front, even as it negotiates on others. This move is being spun as a victory by the Trump administration, but it comes with significant costs for U.S. shoppers and small businesses.
