What I have heard from the "left" is this is a tragedy and condemning political violence.

But, you're right, the left could tone down the rhetoric, I accept that.

But that has been the mainstay of the vast majority of left wing pundits and politicians since the Kirk murder

I am more than happy to admit that the rhetoric on both sides is destructive.

But I spoke of Trump in particular.

Trump has WAY more power than I

Trump has WAY more power than randos on the internet that he and you call "far left"

Trump, the POTUS, has, for 10 years, been stoking division.

Trump, as POTUS, is uniquely situated to combat said division.

He COULD be great by reversing it.

I made this point the other day.

This is likely a critical point in our nation's history, it sure feels like one. The Trump administration has aggressively been attacking a whole gamut of institutions, which has greatly upset non Magas. Between ICE raids, attacks on Universities, law firms, corporations, the government bureaucracy, the occupation of US cities despite zero justification, etc. Combined with massive corruption, disastrous foreign policy efforts-tariffs, Gaza and Ukraine, an economy on the brink, etc.

Into this tinderbox is thrown the firebomb of the killing of a well known and influential conservative public figure (who happens to have expressed vile hate).

What we need RIGHT NOW, is a President like Lincoln, who can use the bully pulpit to calm the nation, to bring us together.

I fervently believe that is what the VAST majority of Americans WANT-to NOT descend into violence.

I believe that Trump, if he were a different man, could seize this opportunity to be an actual GREAT president. All he would have to do is to condemn all violence, admit his own part in this, to begin acting and communicating like the President of ALL Americans.

While not the sole cause of our current problems he is certainly a central figure in the destructive divisiveness. Where dem politicians have occasionally used divisive language about small segments of the population, Trump doesn't go a day without viciously attacking anyone who doesn't agree with him. And it is getting to a boiling point.

If only Trump were a different man, but if he were a different man we wouldn't be here to begin with.

I will state an observation I have had over the past few days.

Nearly unanimously across left politicians and pundits, one message has been communicated-the murder of Kirk was a tragedy for his family and political violence is to be condemned and there has been a good deal of debate over how to comment on the legacy of someone like Kirk

I compare that to what I have seen from the right, which has been nearly universally violent and calling for civil war, rounding up leftists and without any introspection.

There have been some notable exceptions like the Utah Gov. who has communicated like a real leader.

Boaz, do you think our political leaders should be trying to stop the violence?

Is there a link between violent rhetoric and political violence?

Trump "It's long past time for all Americans and the media to confront the fact that violence and murder are the tragic consequence of demonizing those with whom you disagree. I wish someone could give me a rational reason for Trump, the day after Kirk was killed, without a suspect captured, blamed "radical leftists" and defended rightwing violence.

This message from the President of the United States is simply amazing. It is truly breathtaking. Unprecedented does not even begin to apply.

That a sitting president, after a gruesome murder of a controversial public figure would willingly say the things he said is something for the history books.
