Skydiving is a sport - or it can be. There are some incredible competitions in it. I used to watch the formation practice not too far from where I live. It was best from the ground, but I used to enjoy hitching a ride on the DC3 to watch from the plane. I never did anything but single jumps.

This vid and effort reminded me of some other projects - one was Army I think - where they'd fly the plane low and catch the skydiver on a rig and lift him up where he could release over target. There was also something in WW2 - about ground to air recovery? Hm.
But was this, I'll say, a stunt, not a sporting event.
I look at this as testing new technology and ideas. Things like this cost money, lots of money, and sponsorship like Red Bull does, expands the sport. Will this turn into something? Who knows. Will something be spawned from this? I'd bet so.
If you want unbiased from me, though, it won't happen. I was an adrenaline junky for decades. I've finally mellowed. To be honest I have no idea how I am still alive.
