This is following past shutdowns -

Majority party proposes a "clean" (status quo) resolution to extend current ridiculous level of spending and the minority party throws a tantrum (usually it's the GOP but right now it's the Dems) demanding all sorts of goodies (reductions or more spending depending on the party) that cut into the majority party's recent legislative achievement. The difference between now and the past is that the party in power is salivating at the opportunity to use a shutdown as an on-ramp to permanently get rid of tens of thousands of bureaucrats.

Our home system is okay. An 8 year old wall-mounted Samsung 65" flat screen with a decent soundbar and subwoofer. Our lower level layout of the house is weird. Small kitchen and family room paired with a good size living room and dining room with a vaulted ceiling. The small family room does work well for a 65" TV and the sound bar is good enough for that space.

I hear ya, especially given how good even modest home theater set ups can be. Having said that, watching a flick on the big screen is just fun. The theaters are now set up for maximum comfort and more and more have a full bar.
