Ayden Burt, a 28-year-old Texas high school coach, was randomly shot and killed in a rooftop bar while attending a San Antonio conference just after midnight Tuesday. Burt was shot in the back at the Smoke Skybar on Crockett Street while sitting at a table and was not involved in any altercation. The bullet was fired from a passing vehicle. read more
NORAD detected, tracked, and intercepted two Russian TU-95 and two PRC H-6 military aircraft operating in the Alaska Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ) on 24 July 2024. NORAD fighter jets from the US and Canada conducted the intercept. The Russian and PRC aircraft remained in international airspace and did not enter American or Canadian sovereign airspace. NORAD does not view this Russian and PRC activity in the Alaska ADIZ as a threat. read more

Janet Yamanaka Mello (57) worked as a financial program manager for the US Army in G9 (Morale, Welfare and Recreation) at Fort Sam Houston TX. She stole over $108m from a grant program designed to provide services to military dependents and their families. She was sentenced to 180 months in prison for five counts of mail fraud and five counts of filing a false tax return. Ms. Mello will be 72 years old when she is released from prison. read more
