Trust is a lot like respect in that a higher level of trust is earned, and so is distrust. I afford everyone a certain level of trust and respect until they demonstrate it is my better interests to do otherwise.
That's how I try to treat people. But I'll admit, I can overdo the disrespect/distrust at times, particularly over politics. I try to remind myself that.
But then I can't help but remind myself about potential for suspension of Habeas Corpus, screwing over veterans, old people, et al. for tax cuts, and dissolving our traditions and our place as a world leader in democracy, science, and global health, and I think, nah, eff-em.
Meteorological research continues and will continue all over the world. It just won't be us (US) leading the state of the art, thanks to Trump.
Forecasting is a means for science, not an end.
Besides, reducing uncertainty and improving prediction times in hurricane models is a good thing. More time to prepare will become increasingly important now that our federal government isn't going to help with any recovery and storms are increasing in frequency, magnitude, and spatial scale.
