Fewer than half of Americans (44%) now say they can trust all or most of the people in their neighborhood, down from 52% a decade ago. And only around a third say most people can be trusted -- also down around 10 points over the past 10 years.

Fewer Americans know - and trust - their neighbors than a few years ago. "Societal shifts may have driven down social trust by increasing many people's feelings of isolation and undercutting the sense that 'we are all in this together.' " Full analysis: www.pewresearch.org/2025/05/08/a ...

There's that guy with Trump flags down the block.

Am I supposed to be able to trust him?

Trust is a lot like respect in that a higher level of trust is earned, and so is distrust. I afford everyone a certain level of trust and respect until they demonstrate it is my better interests to do otherwise.

That's how I try to treat people. But I'll admit, I can overdo the disrespect/distrust at times, particularly over politics. I try to remind myself that.

But then I can't help but remind myself about potential for suspension of Habeas Corpus, screwing over veterans, old people, et al. for tax cuts, and dissolving our traditions and our place as a world leader in democracy, science, and global health, and I think, nah, eff-em.

#5 | Posted by reinheitsgebot Wow-he looks a lot like what you'd see hanging upside-down in a pork processing plant. Deplorable is an apt description.

It is as if our greatest enemies, including the mass murderer Putin and China's leader Xi, found a way to ruin American democracy by helping a fascist get elected to run our Constitutional democracy. And our greatest danger is racial animus, which Trump exploits day and night.

"Fox is the only one telling the truth."

Fox paid Dominion $787 million to stop Dominion from telling the truth:

WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) Fox News agreed Tuesday to pay Dominion Voting Systems nearly $800 million to avert a trial in the voting machine company's lawsuit that would have exposed how the network promoted lies about the 2020 presidential election.

I have zero trust whatsoever in MAGAs who have displayed overt hatred and even murderous contempt for liberals. I trust pretty much everyone more than I trust them.
