Three former senior advisers to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth decried on Saturday what they called "baseless attacks" after each was escorted from the Pentagon in an expanding probe on information leaks.
Russia is automating the spread of false information to fool artificial intelligence chatbots on key topics, offering a playbook to other bad actors on how to game AI to push content meant to inflame, influence and obfuscate instead of inform.
Republican politicians have been facing criticism, protest, and outright anger from constituents across the country since the beginning of President Donald Trump's second term in the White House.
U.S. District Judge James Boasberg declined to grant an emergency motion blocking the Trump administration from deporting more people under the Alien Enemies Act (AEA) on Friday, saying he doesn't think he has the "power" to do so because of a recent Supreme Court ruling.
Among the threats tariffs pose to the U.S. economy, none may be as strange as the sell-off in the dollar. Currencies rise and fall all the time because of inflation fears, central bank moves and other factors. But economists worry that the recent drop in the dollar is so dramatic that it reflects something more ominous as President Donald Trump tries to reshape global trade: a loss of confidence in the U.S.
Buffalo Tom - Taillights Fade (1992)

Lyrics excerpt ...
...
Sister can you hear me now
The ringing in your ears
I'm down on the ground
My luck's been dry for years
I'm lost in the dark
And I feel like a dinosaur
Broken face and broken hands
I'm a broken man
I've hit the wall
I'm about to fall
But I'm closing in on it
I feel so weak
On a losing streak
Watch my taillights fade to black

Louisiana, Missouri and Virginia report first measles cases of 2025 (April 20, 2025)
www.nbcnews.com
... Louisiana, Missouri and Virginia have all reported their first measles cases in 2025, and they say all three patients' cases are linked to international travel.
The most recently announced case in northwest Virginia is a child in the 0 to 4-year age range who had recently traveled internationally, according to the state's health department. Officials did not clarify if the child was vaccinated against the virus.
"This first case of measles in Virginia this year is a reminder of how easily this highly contagious disease can spread, particularly with international travel," said state epidemiologist Laurie Forlano. "Vaccination remains our best defense against measles and is safe and highly effective at protecting people and preventing outbreaks."
The Virginia Department of Health identified two Kaiser Permanente medical centers in Woodbridge and Fredericksburg as areas of potential exposure, adding that officials are working to help identify those exposed to the illness.
The Louisiana case is an adult from the southeast of the state who was not vaccinated against measles, according to the Department of Health. The patient received treatment at a hospital and is in isolation, where they will remain until no longer infectious. ...

OpEd: Two sides of the globe, one painful lesson: Trump is debasing America (2019)
www.nydailynews.com
... No matter how low your opinion may be of President Trump, he'll always find a way to lower it. On Wednesday, he outdid himself, breaking even the laws of physics by reaching new depths in two places at once. In Washington, Trump was revealed to be even more traitorous, venal and outright criminal than already assumed thanks to the congressional testimony of his long-time attorney and fixer Michael Cohen. Just hours later, in Hanoi, Trump was forced to walk away from his latest love-fest summit with one of the world's bloodiest dictators, North Korea's Kim Jong Un. ...

BaFin to Deepen Deutsche Bank Money Laundering Investigation (Feb 2019)
www.financemagnates.com
...Deutsche Bank released a statement on Friday saying that BaFin, the German financial regulator, has extended the remit of an independent auditor examining the lender's role in the Danske Bank money laundering scandal.[emphasis mine]
The case stems from an ongoing investigation into the Danish bank's Estonian division.
After a whistle-blower sounded the alarm about the activity of certain customers, most of whom were from Russia and the former Soviet Union, in late 2018, it became apparent that Danske Bank's Tallinn-based operations were doing business with some less than scrupulous individuals.
It is alleged that the bank laundered around $225 billion from 2007 to 2014. If that is the case, it would potentially be the largest instance of money laundering ever uncovered.
Deutsche Bank falls into the mix as it acted as Danske Bank's main correspondent bank. According to the Financial Times, the German bank was responsible for facilitating $180 billion in suspicious transactions....

But, I ask, does that deal take into account the long term effects of the deal.

... In short:
China is planning to build the world's first-ever nuclear power station using molten salt as the fuel carrier and coolant, and thorium as a fuel source.
Experts say the reactors are "inherently safer" than traditional nuclear reactors and have other advantages, but scientists have long struggled with challenges such as the corrosive nature of the superheated radioactive salts.
