WESTON, Massachusetts (Reuters) -U.S. President Joe Biden said on Tuesday he may have skipped a re-election bid if he were not facing Donald Trump, adding that the Republican posed a unique threat to the country. "If Trump wasn't running, I'm not sure I'd be running," Biden said at a fundraising event for his 2024 campaign outside of Boston. "We cannot let him win." Biden's remarks come as even staunch Democratic voters have expressed concerns about the president's age. He turned 81 years old last month. read more

With multiple protests planned near the state Capitol, Gov. Gavin Newsom has decided to not hold the annual public Christmas tree lighting live and in person as originally planned on Tuesday. he San Francisco Board of Supervisors on Tuesday terminated a committee centered on the city's homelessness, mental health and addiction treatment efforts less than a year after it was formed. "Scheduling for the committee was a nightmare," said Supervisor Hillary Ronen, the committee chair. "It really came down to logistics." The board voted in February to create the Homelessness and Behavioral Health Select Committee, where three supervisors were tasked with vetting city contracts with service providers before any full board vote. The commission was created as the pressure intensified in San Francisco from residents and businesses to make a bigger dent in homelessness and street conditions coming out of the pandemic. read more

Californians continue to pack their bags and move to Texas, and they're doing so at more than double the rate of those heading in the opposite direction. Recently released U.S. Census data shows that more than 102,000 California residents joined the mass exodus to Texas in 2022. Meanwhile, a little more than 42,000 Texans made the Golden State their new home last year. State-to-state migration flows, especially those involving moves between pricey cities on the coasts and more affordable metros in the South and Southwest, have drawn the ire of longtime residents in growing areas. In Texas especially, some are noticing a financial strain that has seemingly followed as more Californians choose Texas as their new home, even if it's only a temporary move for some. read more
