I spent my summers on the back of a wagon hooking hay in 90 degree heat and 90% humidity - covered in chaff that stuck to your entire body due to being sweat soaked - all for a whopping $7/hour. There is a worker shortage because the wages are suppressed by an endless flood of illegals. Average fresh beef (all beef) in the US is $8.15/lb so the processing plant labor component is 2.1% - 6.4%. So, your price of beef would increase by 2.1% - 6.4% if wages were doubled to $35/hr - and I will note the range of .01 - .03 takes into account the level of automation. The highly automated plants are already at the 2.1% rate. Doubling wages would simply force the remaining plants to bring their automation in line with the competition.

Because the higher labor costs per hour will be offset by a higher level of automation and decreasing fuel costs. So the price consumers pay will not change. On the flipside, their public schools will function again, their health and social services will not be bankrupted, and wages for all working class Americans will increase and lessen their need to use welfare.

On the automation question - a worker harvesting lettuce doubles their production when using automation with the current automation process. Thus, you will see the farmers not automating today switch to automation in order to compete with the higher labor costs. Their cost per lb of harvested lettuce drops from $0.04 to $0.02 with automation.
