Tariffs came out April 5th.

Inflation numbers for April aren't out yet.

We have some data but not everything. Inflation is likely up slightly but only because Shelter costs have fallen 4% for the last 12 months (Dark Brandon wins again). Otherwise it would be up even higher overall because other areas saw pronounced jumps (Trump is an idiot).

The largest contributor was businesses stocking up on domestic inventory before tariffs hit because ALL inventory will be affected including domestic manufactured inventory that often relies on imported base materials and parts.

Government spending is up. Not down.

You only think it is a reversal if you are a total -------. Every measure which points to the real economy is green. The GDP number was suppressed by 5% due to inventory builds on imports (which reverses in the coming months) and cuts to government spending - which is a good thing.

#24 Thanks for the comparison, however, I wasn't trying to make the point that a 10% tarrif was in any way equivalent to a 10% corporate tax increase. The numbers are obviously more complex. My point is that ANY additional costs (tarrifs or coporate income tax increases) will be passed on to the consumer, not paid by the wealthy corporations or fat cat shareholders.

But you're wrong.

Corporate taxes don't generally get passed on unless they are high.

This is because corporations already price products as high as they can to maximize profits.

If profits are taxed, raising the price of the product actually decreases profits further by reducing sales.

Corporations can get around this by investing their profits and reducing their tax amount as well. So they have options.

That isn't possible with Tariffs.

And its WORSE for small businesses like single member LLCs who use pass through taxation or small companies whose main "profit" goes to paying an owner or small number of owners a salary. They only pay personal income tax rather than corporate taxes. But they still have to pay the tariffs.

Tell me how to make computer chips without the rare earth minerals they require that can't be mined in the US.

Tell me where the infrastructure and supply chains are going to come from.
