No. What happens is that the work is pushed off on other employees to handle twice the load for the same pay.
Ask X when they fired huge numbers of their "worthless, do nothing" employees. Then demanded remaining workers put in 12 hour days, 6-7 days a week. Why would they need to do this if the fired employees weren't doing anything?
