Hiring foreign guest workers is something Trump has done before. He also confiscates their passports so they can't leave him.

They can't quit and they can't find other jobs.

He hires eastern Europeans for staff at Mara Largo because the local labor market would include Cubans and blacks. His members and guests would not like that.

Here's what's going to happen as a result of all this loud talk about deporting illegals:
-a small group of illegal alien convicts in various jails nationwide will be shipped out
-a bunch of God-fearing, hard-working Central American folk who are afraid of gangs in their home countries and ICE in the US will leave on their own--for a while, until this blows over
-the jobs now open to be filled by Americans will go unfilled because (1) Americans don't do stoop labor, and (2) Americans by and large refuse to work for the chump change minimum wage
-jobs in construction, landscaping, farm labor, dishwashing and other positions at the bottom of the ladder to success will go unfilled, so get ready for lousy restaurant service, no new roof for you this year, strawberries rotting in California fields, etc.
-prices for scarce goods and services will go up, up, up
-a special, undisclosed and hidden exemption will be given for any hotel company headed by a fat orange criminal insurrectionist, golf cheat and putative monarch, so that any such company can bring in as many eastern European teens and 20-somethings to work his/her properties during high season, at pay as low as one's conscience will allow...

That's not the reason. He uses them to save money on his payroll. They're actually held captive because he has their passports locked up in a safe. Trump is a cruel taskmaster.

I recall a horror story a while back. One worker did quit at Mar-a-Lago. Without an income, he and his family couldn't pay their rent and were evicted. He finally went to the police and spilled the beans on Trump. Before the authorities could investigate, either Eric, Jr. or Kushner rushed in and fired all the illegals working for Trump, thereby obliterating the evidence.

Trump got off squeaky clean.

Foreign guest workers who have to fly to get here are far less likely to quit before their contract expires. It's a thing corporate concessioners have known for decades. Trump doesn't need to confiscate their passports.

Normally, yes. But Trump keeps their passports so they can't leave when their visa expires.

The matter I wrote about was before Trump's first term.

I live in Ft. Lauderdale so I remember the case very well. I remember one of his sons or Kushner had to rush in fast, give those workers their passport and fire them. And, just guessing, probably paid their plane fare out of this country quick.

Nonetheless, I see that Trump is at it again. It's a familiar story to me.
