Mike Brewer of Brewer and Shipley. Loved them! "One toke Over The Line" -- that song was not played on bunch of stations because it was about Pot. But the song put them on the map.
Mike Brewer, half of the iconic folk-rock duo Brewer & Shipley, has passed away at 80. Known for their 1971 hit 'One Toke Over the Line,' Brewer's music left a lasting impact on the folk-rock scene.

R.I.P. Michael brewer.
Thank-you for the music.
@#6 ... Barely made it through one album. ...
Yeah, I readily admit that they were not the most popular duo of the time. They had a few songs I enjoyed.
Then there's this ...
There was a reluctance by radio stations to even play their biggest "hit" --- One Toke Over The Line --- because it was about marijuana.

... Did they realize what they were singing?! Gail Farrell and Dick Dale sing Brewer and Shipley's song "One Toke Over The Line," on The Lawrence Welk Show. Lawrence describes this song as a "modern spiritual". Ummm, okay, I guess so, "technically"... ...
Yeah, the lyrics do mention "Sweet Jesus" and "Sweet Mary," but my guess would be that those mentions were not in the "modern spiritual" context the show proffered ...
Growing up around KC in the '60s and '70s, these guys were just part of the atmosphere. I can't count the number of times I saw them and the Ozark Mountain Daredevils. Always good.
And they got Jerry to play pedal steel on this one. www.youtube.com
