Trump's Tariffs Stoke Fears Of Shortages

American retailers are growing worried that President Trump's trade war and increased volatility will lead to empty shelves, higher prices and store closures as Chinese imports screech to a halt.

Young Americans are sounding the alarm about their finances, with roughly 2 in 5 people under 30 saying they're either "struggling to make ends meet" or "getting by with limited security."

There will be shortages.

Get that fear out of the way now.

Next time you vote, if Trump allows you to, vote for sanity.

I expect that there will even be hunger.

What Trump is doing is much worse than with COVID, in which there were lines to food banks stretching for miles.

Did you know that Trump no longer supports those food banks?

The reason, and I'm being dead serious here, is that those food banks and those lines made him look bad during his first term.

Donald Trump is a vicious and crazy man who never lets anything go.

"ONLY THE WEAK WILL FAIL!"

Trump is counting on millions of Americans to fail.

Ignore this fact at your peril.

I don't think that Trump expected Americans to react this dramatically and so quickly to his failures.

His unpopularity eats at his already worm-eaten psyche.

Moreover, he is frightened.

Frightened, crazy men do terrible things. Not just stupid and destructive things, but world-class horrors like his friend Hitler.

Sooner than later.

"Baby tax": Trump tariffs send baby gear prices soaring
www.axios.com

... New parents looking to purchase a stroller may want to get a jump start, as the price of baby gear is climbing thanks to President Trump's tariffs, CEOs warn.

The big picture: The president has become a powerful ally in the push for women to have more children but his roller-coaster tariffs have made it more expensive for parents to buy the baby products they need, industry leaders say.

Zoom in: Prices on baby essentials, like car seats and strollers, started increasing last week and are up, on average, by about 30%, said Elizabeth Mahon, founder of D.C.-based children's store Three Littles.

- - - "Prices are through the roof right now," she said, adding that they're expected to continue going up in coming weeks.

Case in point: The price of an UPPAbaby stroller, which Mahon said is of one of the most popular strollers in the country, is going to jump from $899 to $1,200 in early May, she said.

- - - Strollers and car seats from Nuna, another popular brand, already went up $100 and $50, respectively.

- - - Over the next 30 to 45 days, Munchkin will instate price increases across about 90% of its products, which range from sippy cups to high chairs, CEO Steve Dunn told Axios.

State of play: 97% of strollers and 87% of car seats are made in China, according to Babylist, a popular baby registry platform. ...

"many people's Income Taxes will be substantially reduced, maybe even completely eliminated"

Of course, he means his will be eliminated.

@#9

OK, for starters ...

Pres Trump has stated previously the purpose of his tariffs was to bring manufacturing jobs back to America, and that the exporting countries pay the tariffs.

If the manufacturing goal is accomplished, then tariff revenue will diminish quite significantly.

Also, he now seems finally to be acknowledging that tariffs are paid in America, by Americans, not by the exporting country.

Pres Trump now seems to be abdicating the stated goal of bring manufacturing jobs back to America, and is saying that the ongoing tariffs will eliminate income tax for some Americans. So... substituting a regressive tax (tariffs) for a progressive tax (the income tax structure).

And this has been, according to his senior staff, his plan all along?

"Trump Claims Revenue From Tariffs Could Completely' End Income Taxes For Some Americans"

1. Tariffs are taxes. If there is revenue from tariffs, it's because Americans are paying higher taxes.

2. The income tax was instituted 1913 because tariffs fell disproportionally to the lower and middle classes, to the point commerce was choked off.

3. Biggest losers in the new equation would be Roth investors.

4. Second biggest losers would be the poor: a new sales tax, to make up for income taxes they didn't have to pay.

5. Biggest winners would be high-income folks, especially with deferred compensation plans.

the purpose of his tariffs was to bring manufacturing jobs back to America

Or to stop Fentanyl smuggling. It varied by the time of day and his blood sugar levels.

"substituting a regressive tax (tariffs) for a progressive tax (the income tax structure..."

On the large scale, income tax is the ONLY progressive tax. Others are either regressive (sales tax), or uber-regressive (SS taxes).

Tariffs, on their face, are regressive, but my fear is certain large purchasers may find ways around them, since evasion becomes SOOOO incentivized.

(Narrator) Unfortunately, it turned out the Republicans were using...Republican Math.

"Pres Trump has stated previously the purpose of his tariffs was to bring manufacturing jobs back to America, and that the exporting countries pay the tariffs."

He's either stupid or lying.

For that policy to work, the tariffs would need to be enacted by Congress and not undoable by the next non-Republican President.

So, either he's stupid because doesn't know that, or he's lying because he does.
