Georgia Hospital Keeps Brain-dead Pregnant Woman on Ventilator for Birth

A brain-dead woman is being kept alive by a Georgia hospital because she was 9 weeks pregnant when she suffered fatal blood clots. The woman's parents, who say the hospital officials have told them they have no say in their daughter's medical care due to the state's abortion law, told NBC affiliate WXIA-TV that doctors are concerned the baby has fluid on his brain and may be born with health issues or may not survive.

I'd send all bills to those responsible. If the State is making the decisions, the state should foot the bill.

Younger DR folks may not remember Karen Ann Quinlan who was artificially kept alive for ten years. Next month is the 40th anniversary of her passing.

In a permanent vegetative state, Karen Ann Quinlan was moved to the Morris View Nursing Home and cared for by Dr. Joseph Fennelly and six other physicians who volunteered their services.

In one scenario here is how this situation plays out:
-the baby is put up for adoption because the mother is not alive
-the family gets the bill for the hospital care
-the father is hounded out of the state by officials
-the mother is blamed for this situation because of some made up reason which insults all African American women in the state
-Republicans declare victory

The "pro-life" (pro-forced birth) folks will say that baby shouldn't get taxpayer-funded care if it dares to be born.

If Republicans are successful in passing the "Big Beautiful Bill" (it's ACTUAL name!!), tens of thousands of people born with birth defects that require inpatient care at nursing homes may lose their Medicaid funding.
