Friday Nite Tunes ...

OK, I'll start with a song from the nineties (1991, to be specific) that you likely will never hear on your local "classic hits" station or stream.

So, putting aside brain-dead pop music (Taylor Swift fans need not apply), what alternative music floats yer boat?

Housemartins - Think For A Minute (1986)
www.youtube.com

Lyrics excerpt ...

genius.com

...
[Verse 1]
Something's going on, a change is taking place
Children smiling in the street have gone without a trace
This street used to be full, it used to make me smile
And now it seems that everyone is walking single file

[Pre-Chorus 1]
And many bow their heads in shame
That used to hold them high
And those that used to say hello
Simply pass you by

[Chorus]
Think for a minute (think for a minute)
Stop for a minute (stop for a minute)
Think for a minute (think for a minute)
Stop for a minute (stop for a minute)

[Verse 2]
I always said it could, they never thought it would
The people look so pitiful, I'm thinking that it should
And now it's almost here, now it's on its way
I can't help saying told you so and have a nice final day

[Pre-Chorus 2]
'Cause nothing I could say
Could ever make them see the light
Now apathy is happy that
It won without a fight

[Chorus]
Think for a minute (think for a minute)
Stop for a minute (stop for a minute)
Think for a minute (think for a minute)
Stop for a minute (stop for a minute)

[Pre-Chorus 3]
And many drop their heads in shame (think for a minute)
That used to hold them high (stop for a minute)
And those that used to say hello (think for a minute)
Simply pass you by (stop for a minute)

[Chorus]
Think for a minute (think for a minute)
Stop for a minute (stop for a minute)
Think for a minute (think for a minute)
Stop for a minute (stop for a minute)

@#24 ... K.D. Lang still gives me chills. I miss hearing to her sing. ...

Yeah, she's one of the greats.

I note, as an example, in the video I posted, around the 2:35 mark, she blasts out the lyrics.

But she does not screech, as so many pop stars do in a similar situation, she just sings the song, but loudly.

Yeah, she's one of the great singers.

Lemme see if I can find another tune ...

[Verse 1]

Early p.m, can't remember what time
Got the waiting cab stopped at the red light
Address, unsure of but it turned out just right

[Verse 2]
It started straight off: Coming here is ----
That's his first words, we asked what he meant
He said, "Where you from?" we told him our lot
Ya take a holiday, is this what you want?

[Chorus]

Mary Chapin Carpente - Halley Came to Jackson (1990)
www.youtube.com

Lyrics excerpt ...

genius.com

...
[Verse 1]
Late one night when the wind was still
Daddy brought the baby to the window sill
To see a bit of heaven shoot across the sky
The one and only time daddy saw it fly
It came from the east just as bright as a torch
The neighbours had a party on their porch
Daddy rocked the baby, mother said, "Amen"
When Halley came to visit in 1910

[Verse 2]
Now back then Jackson was a real small town
And it's not every night a comet comes around
It was almost eighty years since its last time through
So I bet your mother would have said amen too
As its tailed stretched out like a stardust streak
The papers wrote about it every day for a week
They wondered where it's going and where it's been
When Halley came to Jackson in 1910

[Verse 3]
Now daddy told the baby sleeping in his arms
To dream a little dream of a Comet's charms
And he made a little wish as she slept so sound
In 1986 that wish came round

It came from the east just as bright as a torch
She saw it in the sky from her daddy's porch
As heavenly sent as it was back then
When Halley came to Jackson in 1910

Late one night when the wind was still....

Karel Fialka - Hey Matthew (1988)
www.youtube.com

Lyrics excerpt ...

genius.com

...
[Karel Fialka]
I was sitting with Matthew, we were watching TV
I said; Hey Matthew, what do you see?
Do you see the guns? Do you see the bombs?
See those people throwing all of those stones?
Do you see the cars going up in flames?
See their faces, do you know their names?
Hey Matthew, when you're watching TV;
Hey, Hey Matthew, what do you see?

Do you see the tension in a rich man's house?
Do you see the cat? Do you see the mouse?
Do you see the beauty or the big bad beast?
Do you see the famine? Do you see the feast?
In this world of villains do you see the crime?
Is a superhero waiting at the edge of time?
Hey Matthew, when you're watching TV;
I said Hey, Hey Matthew, what do you see?

But people are still having sex and nothing seems to stop them
