Renowned infectious diseases expert Michael Osterholm on Wednesday warned of the potential fallout from Florida's move to end all vaccine mandates in the state, most notably including shots for schoolchildren.
Osterholm commented: "We basically are losing all the safety nets that we had with the public health system and vaccines are at the heart of it and of course this administration is doing everything it can to eliminate or if not totally eliminate vaccines for people. We are really at the point where we can either go with science and what we've accomplished over 100 years in improving public health or we can go with magic, smoke and mirrors and that's what this is really all about."

Commonly imported diseases, often contracted by travelers, include gastrointestinal infections, malaria, dengue fever, influenza, and hepatitis A, as well as diseases like tuberculosis and HIV, which spread through migration.
Although measles was declared eliminated from the United States in 2000, measles cases and outbreaks continue to occur, resulting from importations of the disease from countries where it remains endemic.
