How Tariffs are Shaping the Holiday Shopping Season

Months of confusion over which foreign countries' products may become more expensive to import has left a question mark over the holiday shopping season.

Comments

Not holiday shopping, but...

I wanted to buy a two pairs of jeans to replace some that have seen better days.

So, I went to the usual online stores to buy them. None of the stores had my size in stock.

Eventually I went to the manufacturer's website to buy them there.

They had my size in stock, but only one pair.

Orange juice prices could rise by 20% to 25%, according to Johanna Foods, a small U.S. business suing the White House over tariffs threatened against Brazil.
President Donald Trump said in a July 9 letter to President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva that he would apply a 50% tariff to all imports from Brazil starting Aug. 1.

LOL You're to ignorant to see exactly why that happened. Your pants$chtter-in-chief fumbled the ball and now you need someone else to blame.

"LMAO Christmas is 6 months out and you clowns are already bitching."

You, uh, don't understand how Christmas works.

@#6 ... Christmas is 6 months out ...

Yup.

Back when I worked retail, we started to receive Christmas toys mid-August.

And retailers have usually placed their Christmas orders a couple three months ago, and are now awaiting delivery of the goods.

Were those orders placed?

Are the goods in transit across the Pacific?

Republicans think Christmas toys come on a sleigh pulled by reindeer.

@#12 ... Republicans think Christmas toys come on a sleigh ...

If that sleigh is a container ship making the month-long trip across the Pacific, they are right.

One thing that I heard, but have not been able to verify ...

If a container ship leaves China on, say, Monday and Pres Trump imposes a tariff increase on, say, Wednesday, then the contents of that ship are not subject to that tariff increase because it had already left it's port before the tariff increase took effect.
