Canada PM Mark Carney unveiled an array of national projects to turbocharge' the economy as it fends off a trade war with the US. A liquefied natural gas facility, critical mineral mines, a nuclear reactor, and port expansion marks the first wave of major national projects. An expansion of LNG Canada's Kitimat facility on the Pacific coast, which will in effect double the plant's annual export capacity to 28m tons, is among the biggest supported by the Liberal government, which has pledged to invest heavily in -- and speed -- up permits for projects deemed in the national interest. "The path ahead will not always be easy, because what's happening now in the global economy is not a transition -- it is a rupture," said Carney. "The US is fundamentally and rapidly transforming all of its trading relationships, and the effects are both immediate and profound."
The projects are designed to Trump-proof Canada as the Trump's reckless trade war with one of America's closest allies has threatened to plunge the Canadian economy into a recession. Liberal PM Mark Carney, former Governor of both the Bank of England and the Bank of Canada, stated the projects would add C$60bn ($43bn) to the country's economy and create "tens of thousands" of new jobs. Indigenous leaders and environmental groups are wary of some of the projects, but in Canada (unlike the US), their voices will be heard and their concerns taken into account. Republicans should take note of how competent national leaders like Canada PM Mark Carney, Mexico President Claudia Sheinbaum, or Ukraine President Volodomir Zelensky govern their countries, unlike Benjamin Netanyahu, Jair Bolsonaro, Vladimir Putin, or Dummkopf Trumpf.
#1: My friends in Canada tell me they can't believe Dummkopf Trumpf is POTUS and causing all this carnage. And they are all grateful to be Canadians with universal healthcare, good governance, and low gun violence: static.politico.com
