Veterans for Peace demand that ICE immediately provide necessary medical care to Zahid Chaudhry, a decorated US Army veteran who is disabled and wheelchair-bound. This former soldier has been denied access to critical treatment while in ICE custody. Zahid was abducted by ICE several weeks ago during a routine immigration interview. Since then, he has been held at a privately run concentration camp, despite being a low-risk detainee. He has now gone more than six weeks without access to essential treatment for exophthalmos, a severe condition caused by his hyperthyroidism. Zahid was receiving scheduled infusions of Tepezza every three weeks; treatment that must be administered in a medical facility with constant monitoring of his vital signs.
Zahid Chaudhry was due for his next infusion on the very day ICE detained him and he never made it to that critical medical appointment. Since then, all requests from the detention center's physician to resume his infusions have been ignored. As a result, Zahid is rapidly losing his peripheral vision, a condition that may become permanent if treatment is not resumed immediately. His health is deteriorating in confinement, isolated from his family, community, and the medical care he urgently needs.
