Chinese President Xi Jinping has directed the People's Liberation Army (PLA) to be ready to militarily seize Taiwan by 2027. China considers Taiwan its territory, and any military effort to retake the island as a legitimate effort at reunification. A classified DIA report says China is rapidly building up its commercial ferry fleet to prepare for the invasion. Large ocean-going vessels have been modified to carry tanks for "D-Day style" amphibious operations. In 2022 alone, some 30 Chinese commercial ferries conducted military exercises involving PLA troops. China will have more than 70 of the large vessels by the end of 2026. Russia has agreed to equip and train the PLA to air-drop armored vehicles and conduct airborne operations. The PLA has the least amount of experience in airborne operations, while the USSR was a pioneer of this tactic in the 1930s.

"We are also seeing increasing grey-zone tactics ... to weaken Taiwan's democracy and society, such as cyber attacks," (AKA hybrid warfare') said a Taiwanese diplomat. Several Taiwanese military personnel were convicted of spying for the MSS. Any invasion of Taiwan would involve quarantining and suffocating the island republic and China has been suspected of cutting their undersea cables over the past few years. According to the Global Firepower Index (GFI), China is ranked three out of 145 countries, while little Taiwan, only 100 miles away from China, is ranked 22. Dummkopf Trumpf bleated that Chinese President Xi Jinping told him China would not invade Taiwan while Trumpf is in office (CNN, 16 Aug 2025).
