US Capitol Police (USCP) officers surrounded and arrested a man who ran toward the US Capitol with a loaded shotgun.
Threat Reporting Against US Congressmen Increasing
Carter Camacho (18) of Smyrna, GA was arrested without resistance for Unlawful Activities, Carrying a Rifle without a License, Unregistered Firearm, and Unregistered Ammunition.
Camacho also had multiple rounds of ammunition and was wearing a tactical style vest.
USCP officers found the suspect's SUV in front of the US Botanic Garden on Maryland Avenue, SW. A gas mask and helmet were spotted inside the vehicle.
The USCP's Threat Assessment Section is investigating to determine the suspect's motive. He was not on file with the USCP.

Georgia has some of the laxest gun ownership restrictions in the US and every eleven minutes someone in the US is killed with a firearm, either by an assailant, by accident, or by their own hand. This is all a formula for future tragedies, like US Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ) who was shot in the head by a crazed Republican in Tucson Arizona on 8 Jan 2011; 18 others were wounded.
