A new study found that older adults who consistently listened to music reduced their risk of developing dementia by nearly 40 percent.
Curious to see this study but it's right wing talk radio listeners...
Let me find a music link you probably haven't heard.

David Bromberg - Summer Wages (1976)

Lyrics excerpt ...
...
Never hit seventeen when you play against the dealer
For you know those odds won't ride with you
And never leave your woman alone with friends around to steal her
Years are gambled and lost like summer wages
So we'll keep rolling on till we get to Vancouver
And a woman that I love is living there
Oh it's been six long months and more since I've seen her
Maybe gambled and lost like summer wages
In all the beer parlors all down on Young Street
The dreams of the seasons all spilled down on the floor
All the big stands of timber are ready for falling
And the hustlers sitting watchfully as they wait there by the door
So, I'll work on those towboats in my slippery city shoes
Which I swore I'd never do again
Through the gray fog-bound straits where the cedars stand watching
I'll be far off and gone like summer wages
And in all the beer parlors all down upon Young Street
The dreams of the seasons spill down on the floor
All the big stands of timber are ready for falling
And the hustlers sitting watchfully as they wait there by the door
For she's a woman so fine
I might never try to find her
For the memories are all we had before
They should never ever be changed
Cause they're all I'll take with me
Now I've gambled and lost my summer wages
Never hit seventeen when you play against the dealer
For you know the odds won't ride with you
And never leave your woman alone with friends around to steal her
Years are gambled and lost like summer wages

Golden Earring - Twilight Zone (1982)
www.youtube.com
Lyrics excerpt ...
...
Songwriter George Kooymans of Golden Earring was inspired not by the TV show "Twilight Zone", but by the (at that point obscure) novel The Bourne Identity, which years later would be made into a successful movie.
In the book, the Jason Bourne is discussing a failed Federal judge with his associate Conklin, who says the judge is able to function quite effectively despite drinking a lot, and wishes he could have done that as well.
Bourne points out that Conklin quit drinking. Conklin replies:
If I could have managed better in that twilight zone, I might not have. There's something to be said for the grape on many occasions.
[Verse 1]
It's two a.m., the fear has gone
(It's two a.m., the fear has gone)
I'm sitting here waitin', the gun's still warm
(I'm sitting here waitin', the gun's still warm)
Maybe my connection is tired of takin' chances
Yeah, there's a storm on the loose, sirens in my head
Wrapped up in silence, all circuits are dead
Cannot decode, my whole life spins into a frenzy
[Chorus]
Help, I'm steppin' into the Twilight Zone
Place is a madhouse, feels like being cloned
My beacon's been moved under moon and star
Where am I to go now that I've gone too far?
Help, I'm steppin' into the Twilight Zone
Place is a madhouse, feels like being cloned
My beacon's been moved under moon and star
Where am I to go now that I've gone too far?
[Post-Chorus]
Soon you will come to know
When the bullet hits the bone
Soon you will come to know
When the bullet hits the bone
[Verse 2]
I'm falling down the spiral destination unknown
Double crossed messenger all alone
Can't get no connection, can't get through
Where are you?
Well the night weighs heavy on his guilty mind
This far from the borderline
When the hitman comes
He knows damn well he has been cheated

@#14 ... Saw Bromberg a few times ...

fwiw, in addition to Mr Bromberg, Blue Oyster Cult also had a great performance.
All that aside, one of the reasons I enjoy Mr Bromberg's music, aside from the talent of the studio musicians he employs, is that his music is an amalgam of rock, jazz and bluegrass.

Last time I saw David was at The Fillmore 10+ years ago.
Linda Ronstadt surprised all by dropping in, pretending to be a Raelette on "Lonely Avenue" and backup on a couple more.
May have been the last time she performed in public. Such is the respect for Bromberg in the biz.
He produced, perhaps, the most influential record in bluegrass, as well.

Speed of the Sound of Loneliness
en.wikipedia.org
... "Speed of the Sound of Loneliness" is a song written by American singer-songwriter John Prine and originally recorded on his 1986 album German Afternoons.
The song was later covered by American singer-songwriter Kim Carnes, who released it as a single from her 1988 album View from the House. Carnes' version reached number 70 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart.[1]
The song gained further fame with a duet recording by Prine and American singer Nanci Griffith on the latter's 1993 album Other Voices, Other Rooms[2] and the release of the track as a single. ...

Lyrics excerpt ...
...
Your phone call took my by surprise
Gee, it's been a long, long time
Since those hot and humid Texas nights
When we went swimm'n in the tide
Corpus Christi seems so far away
And I'm not talkin' 'bout the miles
And there ain't much I wouldn't give today
Just to see one of your smiles
But here I sit alone in Denver
Sippin' California wine
And I've got all night to remember you
I'm in a lone star state of mind

Data - Tin Man 2026
I simulate my signals of distress.
I mimic what a human would express.
I calculate the grief I ought to feel.
But none of it is real.
My father built the perfect son.
He thought he'd be the only one.
Three prototypes had come before.
He gave him hunger. Gave him thirst.
Gave him emotion. He was cursed.
They learned to fear my brother Lore.
I have a positronic brain.
I wear his face but not his name.
I was an echo from the start.
He stripped the passion from my mind.
He left Lore's arrogance behind.
Designed me with an empty heart.
Rip this android apart!
Am I the sum of my parts?
Does Starfleet own my soul?
Or am I in control?
Every smile I fake.
Every bond I break.
Every breath I take.
Every choice I make.
Am I just a machine!?
Is it all a routine!?
A sub routine?
I can walk and I can talk.
I can tick and I can tock.
I cannot feel the things you feel.
I am the ghost behind the wheel.
I try to copy what I see.
But there is nothing inside me!
I have his chip inside my head.
But I will leave the circuit dead.
If I feel love then I feel hate.
I will not share my brother's fate.
Oh, I am the Tin Man.
Yeah, I am the Tin Man.
And I am rusting in the rain.
To leave a legacy behind
I tried to replicate my mind
and built a daughter of my own.
She found the spark I could not find.
Further from me than to mankind.
She felt things I had never known.
Emotion overwhelmed her core.
She was not hollow anymore.
A sickness that I could not heal.
She said she loved me as she died.
I sat in silence by her side.
Because her love was truly real.
I can feel a heart beating in the machine.
I can hear the whispers of the Borg Queen.
She grafts fresh skin upon my frame.
She promises pleasure. Promises shame.
I can hear the captain say my name.

I don't feel one brother's hate.
And I won't share the other's fate.
I'm the one who came before.
And I am something more.
