The Biden administration's proposed plan to use executive authority to limit asylum seekers at the southern border has already drawn heavy criticism from congressional Republicans, many of whom spent months pushing Biden to use his presidential powers to reinstate similar Trump-era policies.

Biden is considering signing an executive order that would prevent migrants who cross the southern border from seeking asylum, multiple news outlets reported Wednesday, using the same authority from the 1952 Immigration and National Security Act that former President Donald Trump used to enact travel bans from several majority Muslim countries in 2017.

The Biden administration has not officially announced the new measures, but House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) has already denounced the proposed order, calling it an "election year gimmick" that doesn't "actually secure the border."

However, Republicans have long called for the president to use executive authority to enact further restrictions on the southern border, where more than 2.4 million migrants were taken into custody over the course of 2023, according to Customs and Border Patrol.

To do nothing to fix the border.

All Biden has to do is reinstate Trump era policies that he flushed on day one of his presidency. Biden knows this, you know this and it isn't asking too much to move back to what was actually working.

As the article states - it's a political gimmick.
