The US government has filed a $100m lawsuit against the owner and operator of a cargo ship that crashed into and destroyed a Baltimore bridge. The Justice Department's lawsuit, filed in district court in Maryland, alleges that the ship's electrical and mechanical systems were improperly maintained and that the crash was "entirely avoidable". A preliminary National Transportation Safety Board report found that the Dali had lost electrical power four times in less than 12 hours before colliding with the bridge.
