"His appointment as deputy to the newly confirmed director, Kash Patel, marks the first time in the bureau's 117-year history that the second-in-command post has not been held by one of its senior agents.

"Donald Trump just named far-right MAGA podcaster Dan Bongino, a notorious conspiracy theorist who promoted the lie that the 2020 election was stolen,' to serve as Deputy Director of the FBI. God help us all," posted the X account Republicans Against Trump.

Gregg Nunziata, a Republican and former general counsel to Marco Rubio, the secretary of state, warned that Bongino was a more extreme appointment than Patel " who has portrayed the bureau as an arm of a so-called "deep state" dedicated to undermining Trump and has vowed to turn its Washington headquarters into a museum.

"Kash Patel should have been a redline. Bongino is what you get when [Republican] Senators fail to do their jobs and say no to Patel," Nunziata wrote."

'
"The Trump Admin is turning federal law enforcement over to unqualified, unprincipled, partisan henchmen. It's unacceptable and conservatives need to say so."

Chris Murphy, a Democratic senator for Connecticut, wrote:

"Trump has chosen grifters to lead the FBI. Dan Bongino's entire show is telling listeners the world is ending so they buy the dozens of survivalist products he sells. I know this feels like a bad dream. It isn't."

He's like the 20th former Fox host Trump's appointed... He really does think this is just a Sequel to his The Apprentice show.

Sec Patel is effectively the CEO of the DoJ. Longer-term direction and management.

The Deputy Director is effectively the COO of the FBI, day-to-day operation of the FBI.

I cannot imagine how low the morale might be in the FBI this evening ...

How Dan Bongino Went From Infowars to FBI Deputy Director
www.wired.com

... Dan Bongino rose through the ranks of right-wing media thanks to his unflinching loyalty to Donald Trump and willingness to push baseless conspiracies -- including about the FBI.

Dan Bongino has spent the last decade building a career in right-wing media based on his sycophantic support of President Donald Trump and his willingness to engage in endless conspiracy theories about everything from Covid-19 and the 2020 elections to the FBI, which he has said should no longer exist in its current form.

"The FBI is no longer a law enforcement entity," Bongino wrote on X in 2023. "It is an oppo research firm for Democrats with an armed political enforcement branch." He also wrote previously that he wants to "disband the FBI" and boosted conspiracy theories about its role in the Capitol insurrection. "I don't trust these people at all," Bongino wrote under a Facebook video about the agency last year. ...

I've got $20 that says his eventual demise from the position will be spectacular and a complete PR disaster for TrumpCo. Bongino strikes me as the kind of loose gear candidate that usually washes out during the oral exam. He's Trump's version of a DEI hire, given his long history of proliferating loony conspiracy yarns. I have no doubt at some point he's going to step on his dick, wildly over-step his authority, and TrumpCo will have no choice but to publicly remove him per the outcry.
