Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

US Army 1LT Marciano Parisano (25) of Cibolo, TX, was found dead on 3 May outside an airbase in Comayagua, Honduras. The West Point graduate was assigned to First Battalion, 228th Aviation Regiment. The Honduran National Police identified suspects in the case and ruled out robbery as a potential motive. Comayagua is about five miles from Soto Cano Air Base, where Parisano was stationed: Photo The US military has been supporting the Honduran government against drug traffickers out of Soto Cano Air Base. One year tours at Soto Cano Air Base are unaccompanied as soldiers easily fly home to the US on weekends. Temporary personnel also occupy any of three three Forward Operating Bases (FOB) in Honduras which serve as launchpads for joint operations by the US military, the DEA and Honduran anti-drug authorities.

Last century Ronald Reagan established Soto Cano-- AKA the "forgotten" base-- in Honduras, another vestige of the "Monroe Doctrine" and American imperialism. Now used to combat drug trafficking, JTF-Bravo has done little to stop the tide of drugs entering the US. This network of FOBs in Honduras is similar to the French strategy used in Vietnam, famously known for losing the Battle of Dien Bien Phu (1954). The French military wanted to intercept the opium traffic which subsidized both them and the Vietminh guerillas who sold them in Thailand. To that end, the French established their fortress in a northern remote part of the country, but eventually lost the siege and Vietnam as a colony. Two CIA pilots supporting the French were KIA, the first US casualties of the Vietnam War.

#3: Hi Legally Your Dead: The first two stars on CIA's wall of secret martyrs may have been those two pilots. And 1954 was the same year Ike initiated draconian Operation ------- to deport thousands and thousands of vulnerable Mexican migrants toiling in America's farms and abattoirs: www.washingtonpost.com

Dance with the devil and get your ticket punched.

Is there any reasonably useful anti-drugs aspect to the military? No? We knew as much.

Patrick Tillman knew as much.
