Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

The Honorable USDJ Donald Middlebrooks has found an organizer of President Trump's 6 Jan 2021 to be in Contempt of Civil Court. Judge Middlebrooks has ordered Caroline Wren to pay $2,000 per day until she complies with a subpoena for records about her involvement in the event. The judge wrote that the Republican fundraiser's "pattern of disregard and non-engagement" has unnecessarily delayed proceedings in a lawsuit brought by US Capitol Police officers accusing Trump of spurring the Capitol attack. Her defiance has blocked the officers from accessing discovery "to which they are entitled," he said. "If these fines prove ineffective, I will consider additional steps to spur her compliance." The officers are seeking documents from Wren regarding the planning and fundraising for the event, in addition to communications about planning, security, encouraging attendance, and the VIP section.

Similarly, Rudy Giuliani has also so far defied a subpoena stemming from the lawsuit. In court filings last month, a lawyer for the officers asked a different federal judge to compel the former NYC mayor's compliance. "Mr. Giuliani has failed to appear in this proceeding in any capacity," attorney Joshua Margolin wrote. The lawsuit against Trump and others involved in the attack, including the Oath Keepers and Proud Boys, has been pending for four years. Source: Giuliani Letter

Presidential pardon powers cannot protect Caroline Wren or Rudy Ghouliani from hefty civil fines. Her only recourse is to have the RNC pay her $2,000 daily contempt fine or it's coming out of her huge hippo hide. Cha-ching!

In Ex parte Grossman (1925), the US Supreme Court held that the US President may pardon criminal contempt of court. This matter pauperizing walking whale Caroline Wren is civil contempt of court.
