Gun violence costs Florida $40.3 billion each year, of which $875.9 million is paid by taxpayers. 61% of gun deaths are suicides and 36% are homicides. This is compared to 56% and 40% nationwide, respectively. 23,839,600 people live in the Sunshine State.

By contrast, in 2024 the entire country of Canada (41,712,712 people) suffered a grand total of 286 murders by an assailant with a firearm. Ten times more people die in the one state of Florida than the ten provinces and three territories of Canada combined.
