Pope Leo is among world leaders invited to join Donald Trump's "Board of Peace" according to Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Vaticans top diplomatic official.

Leo, the first U.S. pope and a critic of some of Trump's policies, is evaluating the invitation, he said.

"The pope has received an invitation and we are considering what to do," Parolin told journalists. "I believe it will be something that requires a bit of time for consideration before giving a response."

The board was initially aimed at ending the conflict in Gaza, however Trump has said it will have a much broader purpose and will resolve conflicts globally.

excerpt

"The hesitancy of so many countries to join the Board of Peace is apparently centered around the fact that Trump wants the Board of Peace to be involved in various conflicts all around the world. And many other countries see that as his way of destroying the United Nations.

Now, I know that some of you may be happy that the United
Nations might have to take a backseat to the Board of Peace, but it needs to be restated that Donald Trump is the chairman of the Board of Peace, and that is a lifetime position.

As chairman, he also holds incredible power over which nations or other leaders might sit on the executive board and what direction the board of peace might go.

The power that Trump would hold as chairman of the Board of Peace and the immense amount of money that might flow into its coffers is truly staggering.

I mentioned a moment ago that Trump never met Pope Leo, although he did, interestingly enough, meet Pope Leo's brother at the White House last year, < and that was because Pope Leo's brother is a big MAGA fan.

But while Trump never met Pope Leo, Trump did meet Pietro Perilene. That was back in May of 2017 when Trump visited Pope Francis.

At that time, Perilene was the Vatican Secretary of State, a position he still holds to this day. Perilene was also rather consiliatory toward Trump after Trump won reelection in 2024, saying,

"We wish him much wisdom because that is the main virtue of rulers according to the Bible."

He added that he hoped Trump could bring an element of day and pacification in the current conflicts that are bleeding the world. So, as far as Trump's invitation to Pope Leo to join the Board of Peace...

I'm wondering if that might actually end up being Pietro Perilene who joins the Board of Peace. And that's very interesting to me because going back a number of years ago, I always thought that Petro Perilene would be the next pope.

And that never quite worked out, or at least it hasn't worked out as of yet. But he still could have an outsized role in the Board of Peace. And if that
does indeed happen, I'll be looking to see if he becomes closer and friendlier with Donald Trump."

So, not an immediate "yes," but more of a ... how can we phrase this?
