Empire State Political Update

Denied becoming US Ambassador to the UN by Dummkopf Trumpf, highly unpopular House Republican Elise Stefanik is preparing to launch a 2026 campaign for NYS governor. Stefanik has more than $13 million in cash on hand, more than any other NY House Republican in recent history, and is hiring a slate of veteran political operatives as she seeks to be NY first GOP governor since George Pataki. Ms. Stefanik was humiliated by her own constituents at a public ceremony in her CD: Stefanik Booed.

In the contest for NYC Mayor, Zohran Mamdani holds a 16-point lead among likely voters against Andrew Cuomo. Republican Curtis Sliwa trails in third place. If animal advocate Curtis Sliwa were to exit the race, Mamdani's lead would shrink to seven points. Without Cuomo in the contest, Mamdani's lead would widen to 26 points.

I'm not yet convinced that if Mr Sliwa dropped out all of his votes would go to Mr Cuomo. Mr Sliwa seems to be attracting a different type of voter than Mr Cuomo to be attracting. But I think the prospect of r Sliwa dropping out is moot at this late point in the election cycle.

Another interesting race whose political ads are saturating NYC media is the one for NJ governor.

The Trump admin apparently tried to mingle in the race by an unauthorized release of the Democrat's personal military records. So far, that act seems to have back-fired on the Trump-supported GOP candidate.
