Map of Area: Houston Ship Canal

Republican-led Texas leads the US in both industrial and HAZMAT accidents:

  • In 2024, Texas accounted for 37% of all pipeline incidents reported to the US Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA), with 197 out of 531 incidents occurring in the Lone Star State. Since 2010, 30% of all such incidents nationwide have happened in Texas, largely due to its extensive oil, gas, and petrochemical infrastructure (Source: www.fractracker.org).

  • Red State Texas also consistently leads the nation in HAZMAT plant accidents, with over 25 chemical explosions and fires reported in just the first half of 2023, representing 30% of all plant-related accidents in the US (Source: www.renicklawfirm.com).

Oil- and cattle-rich Texas receives $71.1 billion more from Washington than it contributes in federal taxes, making the Lone Star State a net recipient of federal tax dollars from the rest of the country (Source: www.politifact.com).
