Jonathan Powell, the UK prime minister's national security adviser, attended the final talks between the US and Iran, which ended two days before the attack started.

Powell reportedly judged that Tehran's offer on its nuclear program was "surprising" and that progress had been made.

He was attending the talks at Oman's ambassadorial residence in Cologny, Geneva, as an adviser, accompanied by an expert from the UK's Cabinet Office.

The UK team "were surprised by what the Iranians put on the table."

"It was not a complete deal, but it was progress and was unlikely to be the Iranian's final offer. The British team expected the next round of negotiations to go ahead on the basis of the progress in Geneva."

The UK assessed there was no evidence that Iran was close to securing a nuclear weapon, or that there was an imminent threat of an Iranian missile attack on Europe.

Further talks were scheduled for Monday 2 March.

One thing I am going to say is that we didn't work with them. tRump destroyed the agreement that the west made with them almost 8 years ago. So, of course they were on the path. I actually don't believe they posed no Nuclear Threat. Russia is helping them. North Korea is helping them. We are in a time when everyone who can will be developing nuclear weapons capabilities. Dictators around the world are not fools - especially those in the sights of the US. How imminent that threat was I don't know. I am sure Israel COULD tell us if they wanted to and they wanted to be truthful about it. I have no faith in our own agencies since tRump has destroyed them. I had little enough before.

more than a couple of people there said that Iran started off "negotiations" bragging that they

had 11 nuclear bombs near ready.

--"you people" remind me of the people in the late 30's marching with signs saying...

"why attack Hitler. He hasn't attacked us."

--and the most rudimentary and simple historical source will verify that.

now let's get back to looking at pictures of military vehicles where Americans died from

Iranian IEDs that killed US servicemen and women....not that any of you give a dog's anus about them.
