3rd circuit shoots down NJ "assault weapons" ban

On May 30, 1990, New Jersey Gov. Jim Florio signed a ban on assault weapons into law, making good on one of his campaign promises and giving New Jersey some of the strictest gun regulations in the country. Thirty-six years later, that law has been left in tatters by the 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals, which ruled last week that the Second Amendment disallows the state's prohibitions on semi-automatic rifles and magazines with over 10 rounds of ammunition.

I doubt SCOTUS will uphold this if it gets there.

They've signaled in other rulings that certain bans/restrictions are all good by their standards.

Roe v Wade has entered the chat.

It is painfully clear this corrupt court will ignore precedent when it serves their interests.

Nothing serves the GOP interests more than keeping the gun nuts happy.

Mid-2027, expect semi-auto bans to be struck down. Grant vs Higgins, Viramontes vs Cook County. It's already at the SC.

"A ruling against the bans could invalidate similar laws in roughly a dozen states"including California, New York, New Jersey, and Illinois"as well as recent lower-court activity like the 3rd Circuit's July 2026 ruling on New Jersey's restrictions."
