South Korea's military fired warning shots and broadcast messages with loudspeakers after ten or so North Korean soldiers crossed into the DMZ at 5PM. After the warnings, the Norks returned to the North. Some of the North Korean troops were armed and wearing bulletproof vests. The motive for Tuesday's border crossing by the North Korean soldiers wasn't immediately clear. The 155-mile-long, 2.5-mile-wide DMZ is the world's most heavily armed border. An estimated two million mines are peppered inside and near the border, which is also guarded by barbed wire fences, tank traps and combat troops on both sides. Below, ROK soldiers patrol along the barbed-wire fence in Paju, South Korea. read more

Claudia Sheinbaum, Mexico's first female president, has achieved remarkable popularity just five months into her term. 68% of Mexicans approve of her administration, a steady rise from 62% in Oct 2024. This upward trend reflects growing public confidence, even as the country grapples with serious issues like corruption and security. Sheinbaum's approval ratings have consistently climbed, reaching as high as 81% in Jan 2025. Her leadership style and policies resonate with many citizens, particularly her focus on social programs like pensions and scholarships. Two separate demonstrations protesting the deaths of two men during police action in Montreal resulted in six arrests. More than 100 Montrealers protested the death of 29-year-old Abisay Cruz, who died during a police operation. Police say six people were arrested on assault charges. Another group protested a separate police shooting that resulted in a man's death. According to independent provincial investigators, the victim was allegedly in possession of a firearm when officers shot in his direction. Demonstrators demanded more transparency and accountability and there were no arrests. In 2023, police shot at 85 people in Canada, 41 fatally. In Canada, police shootings are investigated by either an independent board or a different agency, depending on the province. By contrast, US police killed more than 1,300 people in 2023. read more

Researchers at the University of British Columbia have developed a discrete new tool to guard against drink spiking and date rape. It's a small stir stick, dubbed 'Spikeless,' that can detect common drugs secretly slipped into drinks such as gamma-hydroxybutyric acid (GHB) and ketamine, giving results within seconds. The UBC-developed stir sticks have tips coated in a chemical that changes color when it detects a harmful drug in a drink. It works on both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages without contaminating the drink. Ex-CIA officer Brian Jeffrey Raymond (below) spiked the drinks of his 28 sexual abuse victims in several countries over 14 years before finally being caught in Mexico. read more

Vice Adm. Shoshana Chatfield, the US military representative to the NATO Military Committee, has been fired. No reason was given for her removal. Chatfield served as the US representative to the NATO Military Committee, the alliance's group of top uniformed officials. The committee provides advice to NATO's top military leaders and helps guide long-term strategy. Chatfield's firing follows Thursday's removal of USAF Gen. Timothy Haugh, who led the NSA and US Cyber Command. Several other top military officers have been removed from their posts during Trumpf's Stalinist purges: USAF Air Force Gen. Charles "CQ" Brown, the former CJCS;; USN Adm. Lisa Franchetti, CNO; and the commandant of the USCG Coast Guard, Adm. Linda Fagan. The Trumpf junta wants military leadership that is white and male, and supportive of his disastrous policies toward Israel and the Kremlin. read more

Indeed, President Sheinbaum is genuine and terrific. And Mexico ranks in the top ten on the World Happiness Index (WHI): www.rivieramayanews.mx

Meanwhile nuclear-powered, oligarchic America ranks 24th in happiness and is led by a dotard with less than a 50% approval rating.

Thanks Republican voters for giving America four years of gehenna!
