Spent many years living along the US-Mexico border. Folks there had their own problems to deal with, but the general rule of thumb among the Mexicanos I knew was disdain for the Gachupines (Spanish). As for the Cubans, Mexicanos could hardly understand what they were saying. I now live in south FL, where Mexicans are as DANNI at #11 pointed out, at the bottom with Cubans on top. And the transplanted or born-here Cubanos do seem in general to view themselves, positively, as more ... well, it's gachipin. Hence Rubio with his comical strut. The conflation of socialism with communism is quite common, as is the reliance on baloney stories about fleeing Castro. Rubio's familia, for example, departed Cuba while Castro was still hiding out in the mountains, for chrissakes. (Ted Cruz's dad left about the same time to go to college in the US). Miami (Meyami) has for decades and decades been the dropping off safe spot for Latin American people and dough. Leaving Cuba was a good idea, for sure, but wrapping it in easily deflated mythology goes too far, I think.

Hands clean, lawyers good with it, paperwork up to date, trains moving on time.
