Tom Nichols: This election is about fortitude and endurance. The Trump campaign is trying to turn the electoral process into a moral swamp. Voters are going to have to pace themselves to get to November. read more
It's called "pay-to-stay", charging inmates for their prison stay, like a hotel they were forced to book. Florida law says that cost, $50 a day, is based on the person's sentence. Even if they are released early, paying for a cell they no longer occupy, and regardless of their ability to pay. read more
Trump shared an unhinged article emphasizing war on political enemies over his personal character.
A judge has scheduled a major defamation case against right-wing cable channel Newsmax to go to trial in late September, putting the battle over 2020 election lies front-and-center at the peak of the 2024 campaign. read more

For anyone wondering how some Republicans get from banning abortion to banning birth control and why sex for its own sake is taboo to them, read on:

When we say they're coming for birth control this is what we mean:

Birth control pills sometimes cause abortions by stopping embryos from implanting.
They should be banned for that reason alone, without even getting into the massive societal harm they cause by discouraging fruitfulness and enabling widespread sexual immorality.

I see that this post is going viral.
I would like to clarify that I retract absolutely nothing and proudly stand by every word.
Many in our society, including Christians, are murdering their embryonic children with hormonal birth control, often in ignorance.
One of the three mechanisms employed in hormonal birth control prevents the fertilized egg from implanting and therefore discards the fertilized egg, which is a human made in the image of God from the moment of fertilization.

To treat human life with flippancy is to treat God with flippancy, shattering his moral law and spitting in his face, and thus rightly provoking his wrath (Genesis 9:6, Exodus 20:13, James 3:9).

If you have murdered your child, whether through negligence with hormonal birth control or through a medical or surgical abortion, you stand guilty before God: abortion is the unjustified taking of innocent human life and therefore murder. . . . Lay down the murderous intentions of your heart toward your preborn neighbors and even your own preborn children. Become a new creature in Christ and be reconciled to your merciful and gracious Creator. Run to Jesus and live!
I never knew such a thing went on in any state in this country and found it hard to believe such injustice prevails:
"the judge sentenced Hoffman to seven years in prison. She served 10 months after the judge allowed her to participate in a youth offender boot camp."
And yet the state of Florida charged her $50 a day for the 7 years of her original sentence, so that now she owes the state $127,750. And apparently she is not the exception but the rule and "thousands of others" are in a similar situation.
