@$9 ... But another indicator suggests those pieces of government data may be painting an overly rosy picture of the economy, with a recent report from the Ludwig Institute for Shared Economic Prosperity (LISEP) finding the "true rate" of unemployment stood at 24.3% in April ...
Yeah, that's been cited for years.
The "true rate" of unemployment.
The True Rate of Unemployment (TRU), as defined by LISEP, measures the percentage of the U.S. labor force that is functionally unemployed.
www.lisep.org
... Using data compiled by the federal government's Bureau of Labor Statistics, the True Rate of Unemployment tracks the percentage of the U.S. labor force that does not have a full-time job (35+ hours a week) but wants one, has no job, or does not earn a living wage, conservatively pegged at $25,000 annually before taxes. ...
Yeah, I agree, it's seems to be a measure of those workers who want to do more but are denied that goal.
And that aspect raises so many more questions ...

[Verse 1]
Filigree and shadow
Carve across my mind blank
Filling up the canvas
Where my sailing ship sank
Lemon tears and sorrow
Curve among my hearts scar
Binding up the losses
Where my yesterdays are
[Chorus]
Masquerade the past
Impersonate the real
And you never there
...
"Impersonate the real."
Wow, they don't write lyrics like that anymore.
Elon Musk to exit government, upset that Trump bill undermines DOGE's work
arstechnica.com
... Senior White House officials such as Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller "were particularly irked by those comments, and the White House was forced to call Republican senators to reiterate Trump's support for the package," according to Reuters. The news article said that "Musk did not have a formal conversation with Trump before announcing his exit" and quoted a source as saying that Musk's departure was decided "at a senior staff level."
Musk last month tried to appease nervous Tesla investors by saying he would spend more time at the car company and less at the government. But even then, Musk said he would likely continue for "the remainder of the president's term, just to make sure that the waste and fraud that we stop does not come roaring back" and that "I think I'll continue to spend a day or two per week on government matters for as long as the president would like me to do so and as long as it is useful." ...
Last week, Musk posted that he was "back to spending 24/7 at work and sleeping in conference/server/factory rooms."
Lawsuits against Musk, DOGE continue
Musk and the Trump administration are facing numerous lawsuits over the authority wielded by DOGE and the large spending cuts imposed by the new government entity. In one case filed by 14 states against Musk, DOGE, and Trump, a federal judge dismissed President Trump from the lawsuit on Tuesday but said the lawsuit can proceed against Musk and DOGE.
Wow, I pressed "submit" too soon.
Here's what I meant to say ...
@#5 ... unlike previous administrations where cabinet secretaries became friends along the way. ...
That's an interesting observation.
But looking at it from a different viewpoint ....
What friends does Pres Trump have?
And I am not asking about people he seems to be sucking up to for financial benefit, but persons who are his true friends?
Do we have a President with no real friends, only obsequious toadies that he thinks are his friends?
