Army Secretary Dan Driscoll's high-stakes visit to Ukraine this week to deliver the Trump's administration's latest peace plan has placed the service leader into the role of major international negotiator -- a sharp contrast from his boss, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, who spent the time in Washington sitting through White House meetings and firing angry missives at Democrats on social media.

The House voted to overturn a controversial provision approved in the spending package to reopen the government last week, but Republican leaders in the Senate are slow-walking a commitment to fully repeal the measure. read more

An interesting, yet odd, tune.

Another by the same artist who went solo ...

And still a bit odd ...

R.I.P. Daniel Monte McLain, I enjoyed the music you created.

@#7 ... She's even worse as a Prosecutor. ...

Looks that way.

But that then begs the question ...

Why did Pres Trump choose her for the position?

I found this ...

Trump says he is appointing Lindsey Halligan, one of his former attorneys, to lead key prosecutor's office (September 2025)
abcnews.go.com

... Trump made the announcement in a series of posts on his social media platform, saying the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Virginia needed a "tough prosecutor" in order "to get things moving."

The post went on to say: "What we don't need is a Democrat Endorsed 'Republican.' I will be nominating Lindsey Halligan to be the United States Attorney in this very important part of our Great Country. She will be Fair, Smart, and will provide, desperately needed, JUSTICE FOR ALL!"

The announcement came a day after the previous head of that office, Erik Siebert, resigned his position amid pressure from Trump administration officials to bring a criminal case against New York Attorney General Letitia James.

Halligan, who does not have any prosecutorial experience, is licensed to practice law in Florida and handled insurance claims when she joined Trump's legal team amid the probe by the Justice Department into Trump's handling of classified material after leaving office following his first term. ...

Shriekback - Nemesis (1985)
www.youtube.com

Lyrics excerpt ...

...
Quoting directly from Shriekback's blog:

The seed idea was simply the notion that one could make a deliberate moral choice to do evil rather than good (you may recall the scene where Colonel Kurtz talks about the Viet Cong soldiers hacking off the arms of the Vietnamese children who had been innoculated by the Americans: I thought, my God, the genius of that ... understand that these men were not monsters ... they had wives, families, they fought with their hearts ... yet they had the strength ... the strength to do that'.) .

[Verse]
In a jungle of the senses
Tinkerbell and Jack the Ripper
Love has no meaning, not where they come from
But we know pleasure is not that simple

Very little fruit is forbidden
Sometimes we wobble, sometimes we're strong
But you know evil is an exact science
Being carefully, correctly wrong

[Chorus]
Priests and cannibals, prehistoric animals
Everybody happy as the dead come home
Big black nemesis, parthenogenesis
No one move a muscle as the dead come home

[Verse]
We feel like Greeks, we feel like Romans
Centaurs and monkeys just cluster 'round us
We drink elixirs that we refine
From the juices of the dying

We are no monsters, we're moral people
And yet we have the strength to do this
This is the splendour of our achievement
Call in the airstrike with a poison kiss

...

[Verse]
How bad it gets, you can't imagine
The burning wax, the breath of reptiles
God is not mocked, He knows our business
Karma could take us at any moment

Cover him up, I think we're finished
You know it's never been so exotic
But I don't know, my dreams are vicious
We could still end up with the great big fishes
...

[Verse 1]
Call out the instigators
Because there's something in the air
We got to get together sooner or later
Because the revolution's here
And you know it's right
And you know that it's right
We have got to get it together
We have got to get it together now

[Verse 2]
Lock up the streets and houses
Because there's something in the air

We have got to get it together
We have got to get it together now

Hand out the arms and ammo
We're gonna blast our way through here

We have got to get it together
We have got to get it together now

Wow, that was pretty extreme, even for the late 1960's. But the Country survived n spite of that British tune.

More from the article ...

... In Cypress, Texas, a Houston-area suburb that lures families with its high-quality education, Republicans used their two years of control on the school board to ban textbook chapters on climate change, diversity and vaccines.

This month, Democrats took over the majority, picking up three seats on the school board and ending the conservative reign.

From Texas to Pennsylvania to Ohio, Democrat-backed candidates ran successful campaigns in some of the nation's largest school systems and in political battlegrounds. They emphasized test scores and bus safety over debates about which bathrooms transgender students use and banning books from school libraries.

The result was a set of election results at the local level that accentuated the punishment meted out against Republicans by swing voters earlier this month. Those results were accentuated by Democrats' strong showing across the nation, as Americans issued a stinging repudiation of the party in power.

In Pennsylvania, Democrats flipped at least two dozen school board seats, per an ongoing tally from progressive recruitment group Pipeline Fund. The under-the-radar trend was enabled by voters' increasing weariness with the culture wars that helped the MAGA movement engineer school board takeovers and generate hyper-local interest in politics as the Covid-19 pandemic raged.

In addition to Texas, Republicans lost seats in the suburbs of Columbus, Ohio, and the national battleground of Pennsylvania " the result of well-funded campaigns orchestrated by local leaders. School board races are typically nonpartisan, but candidates receive endorsements and financial backing from partisan groups.

"Folks just want their school boards to be boring again," said Lesley Guilmart, one of the newly elected members in Cypress-Fairbanks.

"They want normalcy. Once the board was taken over by a super partisan extremist majority, folks across the political spectrum were dismayed." ...

As I watched that Q&A session, on the surface it seemed quite agreeable betwn Mayor-elect Mamdani and Pres Trump.

Background ...

Here's what happens to the Hudson River tunnel project linking N.J. and N.Y.C. now that Trump terminated' it (October 2025)
www.nj.com

... President Donald Trump doubled down on his surprise announcement last week that he has canceled the $16 billion Gateway project to build two new rail tunnels under the Hudson, telling reporters on Air Force One this week that it is permanently canceled.

Concerns about the future of the $16 billion project have bubbled up from Main Street to Congress. ...

So, was there an agreement to restart that project?
