Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

In a shocking move, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) announced Friday she's resigning from Congress in January.

Greene announced her decision to step down on Jan. 5, 2026, in a video and statement posted to X.

"My only goal and desire has ever been to hold the Republican Party accountable for the promises it makes to the American people and put America First," Greene said in her statement. "With that has brought years of nonstop, never-ending personal attacks, death threats, lawfare, ridiculous slander and lies about me, that most people could never withstand even for a day."

She continued, "It's all so absurd and completely unserious. I refuse to be a battered wife' hoping it all goes away and gets better."

This is the "I need more time with the family" excuse.

Is this a canary in the coal mine?

Did MTG see some polling in her own district that spooked her?

You run for higher office from a position of power: Congressional seat, governor's mansion, Senate seat.

Not from a position from which you stepped down.

The canary in the coal mine.

@#6

I still hold my opinion, that she may be looking for a higher office than Representative. At first I had thought maybe a Senator of Georgia or the Governor of Georgia.

But, I cannot shake the feeling that she is looking nationally ...

#6 #7 Thanks. Good food for thought. Much appreciated.

#7 My nephew was interested in pursuing a career in sports broadcasting, preferably in front of a camera.

When he found out that, across this great land, there are just a small number of on-air sports broadcasters in the smaller markets, and an even smaller number in the mid- to large-sized television markets, he changed majors.

He ended up pursuing a career behind the camera, instead.

MTG may have national political aspirations, but the field is narrow, very, very narrow.

And, national political aspirations allow for the most minimum of mistakes along the way to be successful.

Which is why, nationally, the number of positions to which someone may aspire is small, and the number of successful candidates along the way even smaller.

Very small.

First woman Republican President? Some strong headwinds there.

@#9 .. MTG may have national political aspirations, but the field is narrow, very, very narrow. ..

A good analogy regarding your nephew. I wish him the best in his career behind the camera.

But yeah, national political aspirations are always fraught with a rapidly diminishing field of candidates.

At this point, I am more of the "time will tell" opinion.

... and I'm stocking up on popcorn ...

YMMV.

[Verse 1]
Call out the instigators
Because there's something in the air
We got to get together sooner or later
Because the revolution's here
And you know it's right
And you know that it's right
We have got to get it together
We have got to get it together now

[Instrumental Break]

[Verse 2]
Lock up the streets and houses
Because there's something in the air
We got to get together sooner or later
Because the revolution's here,
And you know it's right
And you know that it's right
We have got to get it together
We have got to get it together now

[Instrumental Bridge]

[Verse 3]
Hand out the arms and ammo
We're gonna blast our way through here
We got to get together sooner or later

Wow, that was pretty extreme, even for the late 1960's. But the Country survived n spite of that British tune.

@#18 ... the MAGA't civil war ...

I disagree.

imo, it is not a civil war at this point.

It is a political war.

And how might that political war wind up?

Too soon to tell, imo.

The voters seem to be having regrets about the votes they have cast in 2024 (that could be an understatement). The 2025 election results seems to show that, in spades.

Will that regret carry on to November 2026?

imo, too soon to tell.

But stay tuned ...
