This is of particular concern for someone like myself who has been given a chance to survive longer than I would have 11-years ago, before the cancer drug regimen that I'm now on was available. This is like when during the Jim Crow era, across the south they made African-Americans pass a written test before they were allowed to register to vote, and then on election day, they collected a 'poll tax'. Note that these were applied on per person basis, meaning that the local authorities could exempt anyone they wished.

It will be interesting to see if the test will be geared to White South Africans...

And the irony is that the Republicans have for years been arguing that we needed to get rid of the 'death tax' (AKA, inheritance tax) so as to protect small to medium sized family farms from having to be sold to pay off the taxes when the owner dies. Well, now the policies of their party is forcing the sale of those same farms while the owners are still alive and kicking.

Trump is now suggesting that when the War Department was changed to the Department of Defense after WWII, that the Pentagon had gone 'woke' and that this cost us victories in Korea and Vietnam:

Were you ever in the service, or more specifically, the Army? Have you ever heard of 'route step'? It's a manner of marching which while the organization of the ranks are maintained, the members are not expected to march in cadence. This is the way you march if you're having to go a long distance, as was the case during the parade in June. I suspect that Trump was expecting something along the lines of what you'd see in Red Square or in North Korea, and perhaps even from some old newsreels of Germany troops marching into Paris during WWII.

And for the record; I was in the Army and I did my share of marching, so I know of what I speak.

But to what purpose? Is he simply 'rattling a sword' or does he honestly think that he could either blockade ships coming and going into Venezuelan ports or does he think that he could land troops and take over at least part of the country?

Not sure what sort of 'parade' could be held to recognize the Navy's 250th birthday. Perhaps a 'parade' of ships up Chesapeake Bay, or along the shore of Long Island, or maybe passing in review in front of Mar-a-Lago.
