Patel insists there is no appearance of conflict interest but he doesn't really explain if he knew the FBI was aiding Krispy Kreme or whether or not that assistance was provided before or after he invested in the company. He also won't say what he knew about Trump's plan for tariff announcements or deals with companies like Intel before he invested.

Sadly Patel's trades are some of the most ethical in this government. He resigned from the board of DJT (truth social) when he was confirmed. The other trades mentioned were sales of stocks he owned prior to confirmation in order to avoid any conflicts of interest. The only sketchy stuff is the $DNUT trade which was a meme stock so maybe he just reads /r wallstreetbets and not because he thought a related investigation would cause it to pop. The big one though is Elite Depot Ltd (Shein) which he got through "consulting" with them and has refused to divest and in fact is still getting vested in it.

So while the subject of the article is a nothing burger it did lead me to learning about the Director of the FBI getting payment from a shady Chinese company.

Actually 'Cops & Doughnuts' is a pretty cool place. We've stopped there several times as our youngest son lives just a few miles from Clare, Michigan:
