Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

California Governor Gavin Newsom is now selling merchandise a la Donald Trump -- including $100 "Bibles" that are already "sold out" -- in his latest move to troll the president. "THE PATRIOT SHOP IS NOW OPEN!" the Democratic governor announced Sunday in a social media post. "MANY PEOPLE ARE SAYING THIS IS THE GREATEST MERCHANDISE EVER MADE. PLEASE ENJOY, AMERICA!"

This is ridiculous. Trying to one up Trump. Instead of one uping him. Maybe chart a different course of action. Selling Bibles isn't it.

The bible includes the hits ...

Gov Newsom has been echoing and trolling Pres Trump's tactics.

While I do agree, those lame, e.g., Bible-selling tactics may not work with Democrats, they have seemed to resonate with the MAGA base.

Maybe Gov Newsom is just trying to probe into the electorate to see what works with voters?

I've not a clue on this, but i do find it interesting to follow.

(and, fwiw, I finally added "Newsom" to the OK part of the browser's spellcheck here.)

Newsom is also mocking Trump's frequent over use of "Many people are saying" when he wants to create a false impression.

Just lately Trump said, "Many people are saying that a dictator might not be so bad."

That's called planting a seed.

On Monday, Trump mentioned a favor he did for the mysterious "Kristi Whitmer""which could have been a portmanteau of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, or a repressed memory about Christine Whitman, who was governor of New Jersey in the 1990s.
He's referred to the Democratic Republic of the Congo as "the Republic of Condo," the Russian city of St. Petersburg by its Soviet-era name of Leningrad, and Noem by the name of an LPGA golfer, Cristie Kerr"all in the past month.
On Tuesday, the Trump administration had disgraced doctor Ronny Jackson declare the president "mentally and physically sharper than ever before."

Yikes.

Yikes, indeed

That the dementia gremlins floating around in Trump's brain are turning off the circuit breakers at a rapid rate of speed.

There's no doubt that Trump's cabinet and staff are aware, maybe even anticipating.

I mentioned years ago on this site that I had a vision of the Secret Service chasing Trump running buck naked down Pennsylvania.

I've always suspected Laura was a unfunny bore, looks like I have the evidence. P.S. Lookup who's running Gavin's social.

There never was a Bible for sale. This was intended to mock Trump and his merch efforts.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. And, in Newsom's case, not being able to come up with any original ideas means you have to copy others.

"There never was a Bible for sale. This was intended to mock Trump and his merch efforts."

Can you cite this please? Every search I'm doing on Google and Bing say this is real. His mocking is in the parodies of the items, not in that he is just putting superficial items up for sale to mock.

And, if it is true, it's hilarious how liberals demonize a rich guy for getting more rich by selling merch but then when a rich liberal does it, it's "mocking". Newsom did this to make money, that's it. You can spin it however you want and add in whatever political bias that helps your narrative but this is just another money grab by a rich person. I'm good with it because I enjoy Capitalism but liberals are only being hypocrites by supporting this.

AI Overview
News reports state that in late August 2025, California Governor Gavin Newsom began selling autographed Bibles online to troll former President Donald Trump, who had sold his own "God Bless the USA" Bible. Newsom's Bibles sold out within hours, but reports do not mention them containing blank pages.
The idea of a Bible containing blank pages is a separate concept with historical and religious significance:
A blank page often represents the 400-year period between the Old and New Testaments, a time known as the "intertestamental period".
Some Bibles include a single sheet with the words "The New Testament" that separates the final book of the Old Testament (Malachi) from the first book of the New Testament (Matthew).
The misunderstanding likely conflates Newsom's recent merchandise sale with the existing historical and religious significance of blank pages found in some Bibles.

Only foolish/gullible dems would buy a 'bible' that is all blank pages, from a snake-oil salesman like newsom.

Newsom isn't copying Trump. He's mocking him with humor. Watch SNL some Saturday night . . . or the monologs of the late night comedians . . . and you'll get the drift.

There's a lot of truth in humor.

Yup.

Gov Newsom is selling Bibles with nothing inside.

Pres Trump is selling Bible without a clue of what is inside.

That's the only difference I currently see.

No, dumbs^*%, we mock people like you for buying it.

For being "anti-gubmint" but yet more beholden to a politician than the supposed government loving libruls you despise so much.

You strike me as the kind of guy who had a cigar box full of fake gold Trump coins you're convinced are worth $100K a piece at any BoA branch in the country ...

Fox News Host Melts Down at Newsom for Selling His Own Bible

... Democrat attack dog Gavin Newsom's trolling campaign has gotten to Fox News again, with a rattled host melting down over the California governor selling his own Trump-bashing merch. ...

Newsom's shown he's a master of showing us these morons idiocy, while they remain utterly clueless. God it hurts so good to watch their MASSIVE HYPOCRISY go completely undetected by them.

@#25

Yeah, the interesting aspect of this is not Gov Newsom selling Bibles, but the MAGA response.

MAGA seems to be quite unaware that Gov Newsom seems to be using them as Pres Trump has been using them.

For a different view of this ...

OpEd: How Trump is elevating potential 2028 Democrats: From the Politics Desk
www.nbcnews.com

... President Donald Trump picked a fresh fight this weekend with Democratic Maryland Gov. Wes Moore, adding Baltimore to his ever-growing list of potential targets for a crime crackdown.

After Moore invited Trump to come walk the streets of Baltimore, Trump not only threatened to send federal troops to Charm City, but also personally attacked Moore and even floated the idea of yanking funding for the collapsed Francis Scott Key Bridge in Maryland.

Yet Moore, a rising star in Democratic politics who could be in the mix for president in 2028, appears to be welcoming the feud with open arms. He quickly fired back at Trump and is already making the media rounds following his weekend war of words with Trump.

As part of that media tour, Moore also challenged Trump on another front: redistricting. He left the door open on CBS News' "Face the Nation" to pursuing a mid-decade redraw of Maryland's congressional lines in response to a new map that Texas Republicans passed at Trump's urging.

The governor is hardly alone in relishing the opportunity to take on Trump. ...
