"That's the error in their thinking. It could happen to them tomorrow. Wave of the hand."
It definitely could, but I think many of them can't even conceive of that. They think they're magically protected or immune from government abuse as long whoever's in charge has the right letter next to his name.

"I said I agreed ICE needed [reined] in. That would include clearer policies and dealing with hostile protesters. You likely think the solution is to abolish ICE."
A lot of Americans are starting to feel that way, not just the far left like Zed, because ICE does not behave even remotely like normal law enforcement. You might have noticed that no one in this thread apart from you and one other poster have been defending or making excuses for them. Even most of the pro-Trump MAGAs are starting to realize how having a government organization that murders with impunity could be detrimental to them under a future administration. . .

"you've probably heard that this has something to do with the way your brain is hardwired"
Uh, no, I've never heard that, and neither has anyone else. Total BS article.

Being pig ignorant is no way to go through life, son.
I know how much you admire the vegetarian artist, but the reality was that he only got the Bronze when it came to 20th century mass murderers.

"Certain color M&M'S in their room?"
Van Halen was famous for that, but it was actually for a legitimate reason - it was to ensure that the venue completely read the contract. They did this because a stage previously collapsed because it couldn't support the weight of set equipment, even though it had been specified in the contract.

'There's quite a bit of primary source material available about another oppressive regime that went quota crazy, filling up trains with folks destined for "emigration" and "resettlement" and such'
Quite a few oppressive regimes fit that model. Western Europe also went kind of crazy with it after WW2 in response to what the Germans did. The Soviet version of it was the worst, though.

"Kind of like firefighters, "pushed to the breaking point", are murdering children during fires."
Are firefighters being pressured to meet quotas to detain or arrest children?

" Tremendous power, which is why the hated picadors work the animals' neck muscles."
I get the logic behind that, but sometimes the picadores go too far. At the last fight I went to, the audience was booing because the picador was literally goring the bulls in the back. By the end, they were literally throwing empty bottles and other stuff into the ring. The audience wants to at least have the illusion that the bull has a sporting chance and that the matador is putting himself at a significant risk of danger, rather than the highly controlled execution/slaughter that it actually is.

"Something's not right with this story. If the others are in the country illegally, why couldn't immigration simply deport them?"
It's normal procedure for ICE to pressure detainees to sign a self-deportation document. It speeds up the process because otherwise they are entitled to a hearing. In this case, it looks like they have even more motivation for witnesses not to appear in front of a judge.

Apparently they have to meet a quota of 5000 arrests per day. Remember when we used to disdain quotas? Some of us still do, regardless of who is doing it.
