Former Los Angeles Deputy Mayor of Public Safety Brian K. Williams (61) was charged with threatening to bomb Los Angeles City Hall last year in a single-count information. Williams agreed to plead guilty to the felony charge, which carries a statutory maximum sentence of ten years in federal prison. Williams used the Google Voice application on his personal cellphone to place a call to his city-issued cellphone and then falsely reported: "Bomb threat: I received phone call on my city cell at 10:48 am this morning. The male caller stated that he was tired of the city support of Israel, and he has decided to place a bomb in City Hall. It might be in the rotunda.' In fact, Williams received no such call and had made the bomb threat himself. At no time did Williams intend to carry out the threat. Ten years is a severe punishment for the instant offense and the federal judge will most likely punish him on the lower end of the US Sentencing Guidelines. read more

A former FBI SA is out on $100,000 bond after being arrested for attempting to expose a covert Russian intelligence campaign to gain influence over Elon Musk and Peter Thiel. The decorated counterintelligence agent has nearly two decades of service, specializing in Russian espionage operations. The SA had previously been commended for his work uncovering sleeper cells and disinformation networks operating inside the US. The SA became alarmed after obtaining intelligence suggesting that Russian military intelligence (GRU) had successfully cultivated relationships with high-profile Silicon Valley billionaires, using a combination of flattery, backchannel political access, and subtle kompromat. When his superiors allegedly refused to escalate the matter, he attempted to alert the public through unofficial channels, an act the Department of Justice quickly branded as an unlawful release of classified material. read more
