Russia is carrying out a "massive attack" on Ukraine's energy infrastructure, leaving parts of Kiev without power. The Kremlin appears to again be using a tactic deployed in previous years, depriving Ukrainians of power and heat ahead of the bitter winter months. read more

In late July, Paul Ingrassia, the White House liaison for DHS, arrived at a Ritz-Carlton in Orlando with a lower-ranking female colleague and others from their department. When the group reached the front desk, the woman learned she didn't have a hotel room. Ingrassia then informed her that she would be staying with him. Eventually the woman discovered that Ingrassia had arranged ahead of time to have her hotel room canceled so she would have to stay with him. The woman, a fellow Dummkopf Trumpf appointee, initially protested the room arrangement. But, not wanting to cause more of a scene around other colleagues, she relented. So the two, who knew each other previously as friends, went to the room and slept in separate beds. Ingrassia's attorney said no last-minute changes were made to the hotel reservations. What's not disputed is that the two ended up sharing a room on the business trip, and that it resulted in an official investigation. read more

Thousands of US-bound packages shipped by UPS are trapped at hubs across the country, unable to clear the maze of new customs requirements imposed by the Trumpf junta. As packages flagged for customs issues pile up in UPS warehouses, the company began "disposing of" shipments. Frustrated UPS customers have been waiting for weeks unable to make sense of conflicting tracking updates from the world's largest courier. Shipments of tea, telescopes, luxury glassware, musical instruments, items worth tens of thousands of dollars, are all in limbo or perhaps gone. A Boston man shipped a package from Japan via UPS on 12 Sep, including Japanese language books, a pillow and a backpack. After it sat in Louisville for nearly two weeks, he received a tracking update on 26 Sep: "We're sorry, your package did not clear customs and has been removed from the UPS network. Per customs guidelines, it has been destroyed. Please contact the sender for more information." read more

The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) has long enjoyed bipartisan support, serving nearly seven million pregnant women, new mothers, infants, and children under five, is on hold due to the Republican Party's government shutdown. Beneficiaries are expected to feel the impact within one to two weeks. With a yearly budget of $8 billion WIC provides vouchers for infant formula, as well as fresh fruits and vegetables, skim milk, and other healthy staples " foods that are significantly more expensive than ultra-processed, high-calorie products and therefore often out of reach for low-income households. WIC has been shown to improve the health of low-income families. If a funding agreement is not reached soon, states will have to either use their own funds to keep WIC running or shut it down. If they choose the first option, states could seek reimbursement once the federal budget is approved, but not all are able to front the money. read more
