Several channels owned by Paramount Global, including CBS, Comedy Central and MTV, will soon disappear from YouTube TV on if the two companies don't reach a contract renewal. YouTube TV, owned by Alphabet, told its customers that it's "working hard to reach a fair agreement with Paramount that allows us to keep their channels," but despite negotiations, it hasn't "been successful yet." The channels will go dark tonight if a deal isn't reached. "Paramount is an important partner for us and as you can imagine, this is not the outcome that we want," YouTube TV said in a statement. "We're still in active conversations with Paramount and are hopeful we can come to an agreement to keep their content available on YouTube TV." Paramount said on a special webpage that YouTube TV is "attempting to pressure Paramount to unfavorable and one-sided terms" and that it's proposing a "comprehensive deal" to keep its channels on the service. read more

California's insurance commissioner approved a plan Tuesday, Feb. 11, to keep the state's insurance of last resort solvent by collecting an additional $1 billion from all private insurance members after a record number of claims were filed following January wildfires in Los Angeles County. In the announcement, Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara said the FAIR Plan can continue paying consumer claims by permitting its member insurance companies to collect an "assessment" from consumers " even those who are not directly affected by the fires. This is likely to drive up insurance costs for homeowners across the state as private insurers try to plug the financial hole in the FAIR Plan. read more
Former Vice President Mike Pence's conservative watchdog nonprofit is urging Elon Musk, head of Trump's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), to cut off "wasteful" federal spending on Planned Parenthood. "For the sake of the American people and generations yet unborn, the time has come for the United States to finally defund the largest abortion provider in America," Tim Chapman, president of Advancing American Freedom, wrote in a letter to Musk on Tuesday. Planned Parenthood received approximately $75 billion in federal funding from 2019 to 2021, including $22 billion in Health and Human Services grants and $53 billion from public health programs, according to a report from the Government Accountability Office. read more
