A Social Security Administration (SSA) official alleged in a whistleblower disclosure that DOGE officials created "a live copy of the country's Social Security information in a cloud environment that circumvents oversight."

The nation's chief broadcast regulator is, once more, at the center of President Trump's culture war after the president launched a social media barrage Sunday night against ABC and NBC. ... To be clear, the national networks do not own broadcast licenses to use the public airwaves, which are granted and reviewed by the FCC. Local stations do hold those licenses, however.

President Donald Trump is pressing for Democratic megadonor George Soros and his son, Alexander, to face federal racketeering charges, he said in a social media post Wednesday, the latest attempt from the president to leverage federal power against his political enemies.

U.S. District Judge Thomas Cullen dismissed the Trump administration's lawsuit against all 15 federal judges in Maryland over an order by the chief judge that stopped the immediate deportation of migrants challenging their removals.

OpEd: There tend to be three AI camps. 1) AI is the greatest thing since sliced bread and will transform the world. 2) AI is the spawn of the Devil and will destroy civilization as we know it. And 3) "Write an A-Level paper on the themes in Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet." I propose a fourth: AI is now as good as it's going to get, and that's neither as good nor as bad as its fans and haters think, and you're still not going to get an A on your report.

Black Stations/White Stations

... The song's title deals with the subject of racism in the radio industry, at a time when more cutting-edged songs and the radio stations in general were starting to open up to newer formats like rhythmic contemporary, which genre this song predates.

It also took on how station policies dictates what can or can not be played on air. ...

The single was also controversial in its own right, as radio stations avoided playing the single because of the song's title and lyrics[citation needed] despite being a modest hit in Canada, where it reached No. 26. In the United States, the single peaked at No. 63 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and No. 2 on the Dance/Disco chart, where it reached number 2 in 1984.[2] ...

Police in CT use force on Black arrestees more often than on white ones, UConn study finds
www.ctinsider.com

... A new report shows that police appear to use force more often on Black people during arrests than on white arrestees, according to one of its authors.

The report by the Institute for Municipal and Regional Policy at the University of Connecticut also shows it is unusual for police to use force in Connecticut, and that a small group of departments may be responsible for most of it, said Ken Barone, the institute's associate director.

The 74-page report is the result of the second statewide use-of-force study produced under a state law. It is based on an analysis of 1,516 use-of-force incidents reported by 83 police agencies across the state. The study period was from July 1, 2022 through Dec. 31, 2023.

The study looked at race and saw a disparities when comparing the number of times force was used on Black people when compared to how many Black people were arrested during the 18-month time period: Black individuals represented 41% of all subjects in use-of-force incidents, but only 34% of arrests, the study found. ...

The human race is becoming a disgrace
Countries are fighting with chemical warfare

[Verse 1: Afrika Bambaataa]
Not giving a damn about the people who live there
Nostradamus predicts the coming of the Antichrist
Hey, look out, the third world nations are on the rise

The Democratic-Communist relationship
Won't stand in the way of the Islamic force
The CIA is looking for other tactics

... Louisiana is asking the Supreme Court to gut the central provision of the Voting Rights Act and ban any use of race in redistricting. ...

www.npr.org

...The appeals court noted that the North Carolina Legislature "requested data on the use, by race, of a number of voting practices" -- then, data in hand, "enacted legislation that restricted voting and registration in five different ways, all of which disproportionately affected African Americans."

The changes to the voting process "target African Americans with almost surgical precision," the circuit court wrote, and "impose cures for problems that did not exist."

The appeals court suggested that the motivation was fundamentally political -- a Republican legislature attempting to secure its power by blocking votes from a population likely to vote for Democrats....

Lyrics excerpt ...
genius.com

...
[Verse 1]
Copper sun sinking low
Scatterlings and fugitives
Hooded eyes and weary brows
Seek refuge in the night

[Chorus]
They are the scatterlings of Africa
Each uprooted one
On the road to Phelamanga
Where the world began

And I love the scatterlings of Africa
Each and every one
In their hearts a burning hunger
Beneath the copper sun

[Bridge]
Broken wall, bicycle wheel
African sun forging steel, singing
Magic machine cannot match
Human being human being
African idea
African idea

Beneath the copper sun

[Verse 3]
Ancient bones from Olduvai
Echoes of the very first cry
"Who made me here, and why
Beneath this copper sun?"

My very first beginnings
Beneath the copper sky
Lie deeply buried
In the dust of Olduvai

[Chorus]
And we are scatterlings of Africa
Both you and I
We are on the road to Phelamanga
Beneath a copper sky

CDC in turmoil. Trump still backs RFK Jr.
www.politico.com

... President Donald Trump promised to let Robert F. Kennedy Jr. "go wild" on health. He's following through.

After the health secretary said Wednesday that he wanted Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Susan Monarez gone less than a month after the Senate confirmed her, Monarez said she needed to hear it directly from the president.

A few hours later, a White House staffer in the personnel office told her she was terminated.

The move prompted dismay from both Democrats and Republicans on Capitol Hill as well as the public health establishment, but it was just the latest instance in which Trump has had Kennedy's back when he makes controversial decisions. ...

Yeah, the interesting aspect of this is not Gov Newsom selling Bibles, but the MAGA response.

MAGA seems to be quite unaware that Gov Newsom seems to be using them as Pres Trump has been using them.

OpEd: How Trump is elevating potential 2028 Democrats: From the Politics Desk
www.nbcnews.com

... President Donald Trump picked a fresh fight this weekend with Democratic Maryland Gov. Wes Moore, adding Baltimore to his ever-growing list of potential targets for a crime crackdown.

After Moore invited Trump to come walk the streets of Baltimore, Trump not only threatened to send federal troops to Charm City, but also personally attacked Moore and even floated the idea of yanking funding for the collapsed Francis Scott Key Bridge in Maryland.

Yet Moore, a rising star in Democratic politics who could be in the mix for president in 2028, appears to be welcoming the feud with open arms. He quickly fired back at Trump and is already making the media rounds following his weekend war of words with Trump.

As part of that media tour, Moore also challenged Trump on another front: redistricting. He left the door open on CBS News' "Face the Nation" to pursuing a mid-decade redraw of Maryland's congressional lines in response to a new map that Texas Republicans passed at Trump's urging.

The governor is hardly alone in relishing the opportunity to take on Trump. ...

$750 a month was given to homeless people in California. What they reported spending it on is more evidence that universal basic income works. (2023)
www.businessinsider.com

... About 100 homeless people in California's Los Angeles County and San Francisco Bay Area were given $750 a month for a year " no questions asked.

The newly released results of the first six months of the study on the impact of basic income and social support intervention show how the recipients spent the influx of cash.

The findings appear to be the latest piece of evidence showing the benefits of a basic-income plan.

The study found that after six months, those who received the $750 monthly stipend were less likely to report being unsheltered and said they were closer to having enough money to meet all of their basic needs compared with a control group of people who accessed usual homeless services. ...
