Exactly what happened lol. They were domesticated by indigenous people, pre-Columbus. They are native to Mexico, Central America. White people would buy them up as pets for easter and release them into the wild after. Many descend from escaped farm animals. Rich white people use them as lawn decor. The only place in the US they are not invasive habitat destroyers is the Southern tip of Texas.

No, that's you reading what you want to read. I don't have to reiterate something that obvious.

You are all welcome for me bringing you this enlightenment level of pool knowledge so early on. Truly, I am a man of singular genius, as somebody who can look at the evidence of everything going wrong with a big but simple pool, and say hey, here's why the stuff going wrong with that pool really fails. Because nobody in the history of the world has worked on a pool before. It's only me, and Auerhahn in the link above.

Also, again, ------- muscovy ducks. One person brought them in from a friends pond because they look pretty. People started feeding them, the population exploded. They did $80,000 in direct damage to the pool and decking, and the chemical bills skyrocketed alongside that.

So, of course, the ducks have to be culled. It doesn't require a permit, they're an invasive species. The HOA claimed they needed a permit, until one of their family members got his paperwork in to create an animal control company they could no bid the contract out to.

This animal control company shows up, poisons the ducks at 1pm, and at 3pm as the elementary school kids get off the bus it is now an apocalyptic wasteland of dead and dying ducks hundreds of yards from the pond in both directions.

Corruption and Muscovy ducks are an expensive, sometimes traumatic combination.
